Just got a call from Jordana at 2:30... ACCEPTED!

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

Got my call today interviewed on the 25th. Accepted! Now I've got 20 days do make a decision. #firstworldproblems

Congrats to those who got accepted! 👍

I'll have my interview on 2/22. Should I be worried about trap questions? I hear it's a pretty relaxed interview. Will it be individual or group interview? Thanks!

Got a call yesterday! Interviewed Jan 25th as well! Good luck to all those who are still interviewing!

And if you can convince them why pharmacy, why Mercer, and answer other basic interview questions.....you will be fine!

They are SUPER NICE!!!

Yes very relaxed interview. I'd you know why you want to do this and can convey his serious you are, you'll do great

Did you interview morning or afternoon?

Interviewed on the 25th and got the call I was accepted on Thursday the 31st! Yay for class of 2017!

Congratulations to all who have been accepted thus far. Hopefully I will be among one that can say the same soon 🙂

I interviewed Feb. 1st and received an email on the 8th stating I've been waitlisted 🙁 Is anyone else on the waiting list too? Does anyone know if the list is ranked? The waiting game is stressing me out since I'm in the process of looking for housing for another school that I've accepted an offer from. Classes for the other school starts in June so I really hope to hear from Mercer before then :xf:

The waitlist is not ranked, and I can appreciate the fact that being on a waitlist is a tough situation. Although the committee has in the past accepted students from the waitlist before the end of the semester, I will be honest in saying this doesn't happen often (most decisions are made AFTER the semester has ended). That of course has nothing to do with the caliber of the waitlist but rather the nature of rolling admissions - it is tough to say how many can be taken from the waitlist until the interviews are through! There are years when we have taken a handful of applicants from the waitlist and then there are years when we unfortunately taken few, if any at all. If he or she is not accepted during the academic year (again, an admittedly rare occurrence), a decision can be made at any point during the Summer - from the beginning in May when we work to fill the class, to even late in August when a few in the class decide not to attend after all.

So my advice from a motivation standpoint is to keep the head up - acceptances are not easy to come by in Pharmacy and it is obvious Mercer still wants you on their radar and thinks highly of you. However, unfortunately unlike say undergrad where the number of students in a class is more malleable, rolling admissions for a small class with a specific goal number does mean waitlist decisions are made towards the end of the academic year and throughout that Summer. Many applicants take the waitlist as a non-decision, but the best thing to do is to look at it knowing what it HAS decided. Although from Mercer's end things have not changed much (they feel you could be a successful student here and want to evaluate you), the decision DOES change things for the applicant (due to the number of applicants and small class size, Mercer wants reevaluate your candidacy after the interviews have been completed when they have a better idea of how many spots are open).

The next move has to be the applicant's. The best call is to take this information and then re-evaluate to make the decision that is now best for you. There are plenty of current Mercer students who were originally on a waitlist and when they got the call in the Summer, they found a way to attend Mercer - maybe they lost their deposit at another school, or maybe they did not want to attend anywhere else and had other options to pursue if they were not eventually accepted . Others understandably have other excellent opportunities and find it best to remove their name from the list to go with something that is certain. Either way, the information towards your ultimate decision of where to attend does change in a challenging way. Use all of this information to help you make a decision that will help you reach your goals.

I hope this information has been helpful. Good luck to everyone as they continue through the admission process.

Jordana called and let me know that I was accepted today (2/27)! 🙂

This was incredibly quick because I interviewed on 2/22...

Invited to interview Friday March 15... Anyone else have the same day?

For those of you who flew from out of state, did you take a taxi from the Airport to Mercer or did you use public transportation?

I'll be there March 15th as well! And I'm renting a car to get to Mercer.

Does anyone know if Mercer will provide you with a school laptop? Thanks

It would be a pretty long taxi ride from the airport! If you take the MARTA train to the "Brookhaven" exit, you can take a taxi from there to the school!

If any current Mercer student could please answer the questions below, I would really appreciate it. Thank you in advance!

1) What would you recommend we study prior to going into the pharmacy program? What should we review?

2) Is there a lot of job opportunities while studying at Mercer? Does the school help you out in any way? (possible email notifications) Would you recommend taking a part time job while attending school?

3) How important is the Spring Picnic? I live out of state and it will cost me a couple hundred dollars to fly over to Atlanta. If I do not need to find a roommate, do you think I should try to make it? (I'm kind of short on cash atm)

Thank you very much! 😍

Good questions!

First of all: I admire the dedication, but I would recommend taking the summer off and enjoying yourself! Maybe working if you can, but especially if you're moving from out of state, just spend as much time with your friends and family as you can! If you want to review some things, maybe take a look at your anatomy and physiology, as these are the most important things to know about when you start learning about the pathophysiology, and pharmacology!

I very much enjoy my part-time job at CVS during school. It also opens up some networks, and gets you some much needed experience before you graduate pharmacy school. The school does a very good job of giving you opportunities. Also, if you get to know some upper classmen (me for example! 🙂 ), we can help direct you to various job openings!

The spring picnic is not super important, it's just for you to get to know your classmates before you all matriculate. If it would require a plane ticket, I actually recommend not coming! That being said, for people that can I DO recommend coming! It's fun to meet everyone, and see how excited you all are.

Hey everyone!

I'm actually planning on applying to pharmacy schools this summer to be eligible for the class of 2018. Mercer is one of my top choices along with PCOM. Just wondering if anyone could give me some advice on the application process, information about the school, PharmCAS, PCAT study tips and other vital information. I just want to get a head start on the process.

Thanks!

I am doing the same thing. I think that looking ahead and getting tips can help with the admission process. 🙂 Mercer is my top choice, as well!

Thanks!

Why do you like PCOM? Do you like it because of the program or because it's in the same state? I declined an interview to PCOM because I got accepted to Mercer. I hope I made the right choice!

I think you did. I interviewed at both and mercer had a lot more opportunities in rotations and more networking than PCOM because it is so new. PCOM interview was very disorganized and when I asked them f they were expanding their rotation sites and types of IPPE and APPE's, they said not during the time I would be there because they need to get accredited, receive funding, and increase networking possibilities. I did like their program in theory but found it disorganized.

I honestly think that how you do in pharmacy school depends on your study habits. If you study well and get help when you need it, you can excel anywhere you go- whether it is PCOM or Mercer or wherever. Between the two, I liked Mercer because of its established reputation and the overall feel of the school. It felt like a place I could thrive in and have the ability to expand in my knowledge and opportunities for rotations. That's my two cents.

Mercer University college of pharmacy and health sciences class of 2017! 🙂

Tips for the application process-- The earlier you apply, the better. Make sure you pick quality references that you can rely on. Make sure your you send your PCAT scores to PharmCAS FIRST and your schools second. In Mercer's case, they get your PCAT scores through PharmCAS and not directly through Pearson.

PCAT-- Study as frequently as possible. That doesn't mean study every day. I really hated studying for it, but I managed to study at least 3 or 4 times a week. Really focus on math. The Kaplan book I used prepared me for everything except math. Don't focus too much on formulas for chemistry (I was a chem. major in college and was expecting much more complex chem questions.)

As for information on the school...you can look that up on their website or, if you live nearby, just visiting. For me, it was the comfort factor that attracted me. I went to a cut-throat undergrad school, and I was looking for something more down-to-earth (as opposed to noses-in-the-air sort of attitude). Mercer is exactly that. Relaxed, helpful, and comforting.

Good luck!

Thanks for the insight! I hope to be in the same boat as you are within the next couple of months. I hope to get an interview with both, so that I can get a better feel for the college before I make my final decision but I'm definitely leaning more toward Mercer!!

Thanks for the tips! I'm a chemistry major as well so it's good to know that the test won't have as much complex chemistry questions.

I'm in the process of registering for the PCAT right now, so when you say send my scores to PharmCAS first, do I not choose any schools at this point? Do I wait until after I get my scores and then send it to schools?

I've been researching the two schools extensively via their website and other info, just wanted to get some feedback from students that's attend the school already. Thank you once again!!

My only pieces of advice to you are to apply to as many schools as you can and as early as you can and focus on your PS and supplemental essays. You never know if your resume or essay is one that the school is looking for you know. Your PS may affect different interviewers in a diverse ways. When PharmCAS opens start working on it ASAP. Have people peer edit your personal statement and study like a horse for the pcat. Don't have to study everyday, just study smart.

Here's what Mercer's FAQ says about the PCAT thingy:

Pharmacy College Admissions Test (PCAT) Scores. PCAT scores must be submitted to
PharmCAS (use code 104), and must be received before your file can be considered
complete and ready for review. Only scores from June 2008 to January 2013 will be
accepted in the current admissions cycle.

I'm sure other schools follow a similar guideline.

Oh, my bad. Well, you got my two cents anyways! 😛

The only thing I would augment is that applying to AS MANY SCHOOLS as you can might be a bit misleading. I would narrow it down to 4-8 schools that you are interested in, and I would narrow down in this way:

1) Find a region of the country that you could see yourself living (Ex: East coast for me)
2) For me, being from Florida, I applied to most of the schools in my state, because this is where you will be most competitive. If you are from Georgia, it won't hurt to apply to every school in the state.
3) Make sure you're applying to schools you actually WANT to attend, otherwise you're just throwing away money.
4) Once you have a base of school's close to you, branch out a bit and find 2-4 schools out of state where you are competitive, and think offer something that your in state schools do not (For me: University of Kentucky, University of Minnesota, and Mercer University).

All of that being said, if you are in a position where you have funding from someone (i.e. parents) that don't mind spending a pretty penny on applying to schools then you should do 2 things:

1) Thank them a million times over, and mean it! You are very fortunate 🙂
2) Apply to several more schools just to keep your options fully open.

Hope some of this helped from the thoughts of a P2 student at Mercer, that is sort of removed from the application process.

Congrats! So which schools are you considering?
Right now its a toss up between NOVA and MERCER. Don't know which one to pick, leaning toward Mercer because of ranking, but it requires me to move to GA with my family. Or I can choose Nova that is 20 minutes away.

Well, I can't speak about your family, but I'd choose Mercer over Nova. When I had my interview at Nova, the atmosphere was comparable that of a giant high school. Mercer, to me, feels more close-knit where everyone in class knows each other and the staff and faculty are all very friendly. In addition, Mercer has an excellent student organization network. Many of Mercer students hold national positions (and compete nationally), such as APhA.

Rankings don't really mean anything. It depends on how well you do during your time there, experience you acquire, and the people you meet, that will determine your outcome after pharmacy school. If you have family ties down in south Florida and it's difficult for them to move, sure, Nova is the better option.

For those waiting on admissions. Mercer is still interviewing. I have an interview 05/03/13 🙂

Gave up my spot. Best of luck to all of you! 😀

I chose Mercer for that exact feeling. Moving in July! Mercer COP 2017!

I just gave up my seat. Congrats to whomever receives the invitation.

I interviewed on 4/26 with a friend. We were in seperate groups but were both waitlisted. I wonder if they are full already and are just waiting on people to drop their spots. 🙁 more waiting.....
