Mercer University 2011 App Cycle

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
hey, do they have your pcat scores??
mind me asking when you submitted your app?

i havent submitted yet bc i dont have my pcat scores
fingers crossed!

good luck to you!!

I submitted my app on August 5th I believe. They do have my PCAT scores and the only prereq I have left is Physics - which I'm taking right now.

I took the PCAT in June and I waited to see my score before submitting too. Good luck to you as well!! :luck:

I'll be there on September 24th. 🙂

Do you guys know how is the interview (e.g. relaxed, group interview)? what type of questions they ask? Could someone share its experience with us?

Thanks a lot and good luck!!!

Yay! Congratulations! This is so exciting! I have heard that they are closed file interviews and they are laid back. Everyone is very nice. I have heard a LOT of good things about Mercer interviews! Have you seen the interview feedback on here?

I submitted my supplemental and app fee prior to my PharmCAS and didn't receive anything from them until Monday when the received my PharmCAS. I'm hoping they received my supplemental and app fee because they haven't notified me regarding that. They have my January PCAT scores but I re took in August so they probably won't consider my file until they see better scores. So unfortunately, I doubt I'll be with you on the 25th.

Mandy, they emailed me when my application file was complete and informed me that it would be 2-3 weeks when I'd hear about a decision. So you should be getting that email before an interview invitation - I would think. Just heads up. I was on the edge of my seat waiting so the more information I could find the better! lol

So, I'm wondering.....

When my file is complete, will they update the PharmCAS status page so that the items will all be marked as R(eceived)? As of right now, all the items are "Postmarked", but I assume they have everything since PharmCAS mailed my app on August 30th.

Anyways, good luck on the interviews and hopefully I will get invited as well soon!

Well, assuming that the format will be the same for all schools using this status feature, if all your items were received there will be a date under the column "Date Item Was Postmarked Or Received By School". The "P" for Postmarked just means all items have to be postmarked by their set deadline (a different column) to be considered.

Received the "file is complete" email this morning 🙂

Congratulations to you as well!!!
I think I have seen the interview feedback, but they don't specify by school I think. I am getting a bit nervous, but thanks for sharing what you've heard.

Thanks a lot and good luck!!!

I interviewed there last year. From what I recall, the 'interview' portion of the day is divided into three portions: a) student interview, b) group mingling 'interview', and c) faculty interview.

During the student interview, a P1 or P2 takes you off from the group and talks to you for a while, mine was in the food court. My student interview was very conversational, basically why I was interested in pharmacy, and it gave me a chance to show that I knew a lot about the profession and wasn't just applying because I couldn't get into med school.

During the mingling session (which I am 99% sure you're 'graded' on) there are some other faculty (Dean Bartling is a really cool guy) and some current students. I think they just want to make sure you're not a wallflowre that's incapable of talking to others. Luckily, someone from SDN was at my session and we struck up a conversation and a group formed around us.

During the faculty interview, you're led to an office and you talk one-on-one to a professor or pharmacist. My interviewer was a professor that taught in third year. She was really upbeat and fun to talk with. This will feel the most like a traditional interview during the whole day. It's closed file, so they don't know much about you, so it's really your chance to present yourself favorably. I think they try to ask one 'funny' question per interview (what 3 drugs would you take to a desert island? if you were a pill..., etc).

Other than that, all I can say it was as low-stress as they could've made it: after all, it's a pharmacy school interview -- it's going to be stressful. If you're flying in, it's a long cab ride from the airport, but there's a Super 8 I think within walking distance to the campus that I stayed at. My plane was delayed so I got in at 2am that night, slept, then checked out and went to my interview, then back to the airport to fly home.

They let me know very quickly whether or not I was accepted, which I appreciated. The only reason I ended up declining the offer was the difference in tuition, otherwise I would've went to Mercer.

I'm actually a P1 at Mercer and have to say that I love it. The interview is really quite relaxed just as gtpederson said. Just be sure to dress appropriately and remain confident throughout the interview.

Thanks! I am so looking forward to Friday!

Did anyone get an interview invitation from Mercer yet? Mine is Sept. 25!! 👍

Will I see any SDNers there?

I'll be there on September 24th. 🙂

Good Luck! Do you have morning or afternoon interviews?

To those that were invited for an interview: Were you given a choice of dates, or was a date assigned to you?

Oh my gosh. I need to get a little girl just like this to be Leo's lady friend.

I know that when I got my interview, because I applied so late, I was given the date for the interview. I do believe I had the option to call and reschedule but the date I was given worked perfectly for me.

They told me my interview is scheduled for Sept 24th at 1:00 and requested that I rsvp if I could attend at that time.

Snake I'll see you there probably! I'm wearing a skirt suit with a pink shirt.

Y'all I am so excited for tomorrow!!

So the interview I attended on Friday, Sept. 24 was really fun! Everyone was so friendly and I got such a great impression of the school. It is definitely my first choice. I also met a super nice SDNer (Runner...something - what is your screen name?) I didn't meet Snake though 😕

So they are supposed to be meeting on Thursday and I really hope they make phone calls that day!! :xf: I am so excited!

How long after you submitted you supplemental did you wait to get an invite for an interview? =)

Once they received it they were right on time: 2-3 weeks like their email said.

there is an underscore b/4 99 in my email add.

I just received an invitation for an interview on October 15th!

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!! I am SO happy! I was accepted to Mercer today!! I got my phone call around 1:30. The committee met yesterday!

I am SO SO SO happy!! I love Mercer!!
:soexcited::biglove::banana::claps:🤣

It IS my first choice! If I get accepted to UGA then I'll consider it just based on the tuition difference. But I really really loved Mercer when I was there. Plus it's really close to my church.

Great!!! Between UGA and Mercer, I don't know which I would rather go to if I actually got accepted to both.

If you found out within one week of your interview, maybe I'll know by Oct. 22nd. :xf: :xf:

Congrats!! You didn't want to go to UGA?

👍 Awesome!!

I got my acceptance today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😍

Congrats!!!!! =D How did the interview go? Was that your first interview? Also, if you don't mind... would you share your stat? I really hope I get an invite! I dont think Pharmcas has gotten to them yet. I submitted pretty late 🙁 sigh...

I'm from Oklahoma and I'm considering applying to Mercer. How likely is it that I will get an interview? My pcat score isn't the very best... Do they have high preference for state residents?

Yes it was my first interview! To my knowledge they don't prefer instate students, since they are private. People come from all over the country.

My stats:

PCAT 85
GPA ~3.2 (maybe even a little lower. But As and Bs in Chemistry)
Lots of neat ECs and leadership positions (not related to science or pharmacy)
hospital pharm experience for ~9 months
Bachelors of Business Administration, Management

Oh and y'all with all the questions...just apply!! You never know!! Guessing and wondering and analyzing is not going to change anything. Take a chance and see what happens.

I have applied to UGA. If I am accepted then I will consider it. I truly am leaning toward Mercer though.

I'm almost positive that there is not a preference for in-state applicants.

I have questions for those that have interviewed at Mercer before....

How early should I plan to arrive? Do I need to bring a pen or pencil for any writing, an ID, or money? I'm thinking about just putting my car key and a couple of dollars in my pocket so I can go in without a purse.

And about the shoes.....Would it be okay if I wore these shoes with a skirt suit?

The heels are about 2 inches... ??????

Thanks!!

Depending on how you're getting there (assuming you're driving from home since your location says GA) I would plan to get there about 30 min early. Just so you're not held up by traffic or finding the building (it's the first one from the North, so it's not hard). You'll be more calm if you have time get there and sit down for a little.

I don't think we wrote anything last year, but I would probably bring a pen and your wallet just in case. Pretty much all of the girls had purses. I would just bring a dark colored, professional looking one that isn't overly huge.

Those heels are fine in my personal opinion. I honestly wore much higher heels because I'm short, but I didn't feel weird. As long as you look professional.

We didn't write anything. Girls left their purses in the conference room where we all were waiting for the interview to begin. I just brought my keys. There were Mercer pens and folders with information in them at our interview.

Those shoes are totally fine. Mine were maybe 3 inches and had a little ruffle on the top. But definitely just wear something professional that you feel great in!

Thanks Tinkerbell and SarahLorraine for the information! 🙂
