North Carolina resident here! I was accepted to Methodist CFVH SOM and CUSOM. I am currently interested in a variety of specialities, some of which are primary care. I would like to keep my options open and explore every specialty. I want strong rotations and would prefer not to move around too much while I'm in school. I also want to make sure I have the opportunity to find solid research opportunities.

Methodist
Pros:
- MD program
- associated with hospital system (Cape Fear Valley Health)
- more urbanized area (I'm used to living in cities)
- 40k tuition remission

Cons:
- new program, no match data

Campbell
Pros:
- very established DO program
- 99-100% match rate

Cons:
- need both COMLEX and USMLE to be more competitive
- possible stigma against DO
- OMM classes
- rural area
- regional clinical sites

Please let me know if I've made any mistakes with this information! I'm still doing my research on both schools, and would love some advice on what to do. If you're currently in a similar situation, what are you planning to do?

Welcome to the forums.

This is a difficult choice because the more experience with the Match, the more assurance you have. It's very difficult to know what to expect with a brand new program, and what I don't see is the strength of student support and faculty mentoring at Methodist in your comparison. I don't know if the rotation sites for Campbell and Methodist are that much different (you will have a better idea). I'm sure that most new schools will do everything they can to get a high match rate, so the connections Methodist has to training sites and residency programs needs to be scrutinized (by you); again, I don't imagine it's different than Campbell or ECU.

Certainly the cost difference is meaningful as a hook to keep you in the inaugural class. Consider that impact on whatever you wind up doing.

I was waitlisted at Methodist today, but even if I get off the waitlist, I am in a similar position in terms of not knowing who to choose between them and Campbell😅

I agree with Mr.Smile. I do not know the sites that Methodist will use (nor may they) and there likely is some overlap with Campbell given the location and the fact UNC and Duke dominate the Triangle.

Main bonus will be not having to do extra boards at Methodist. I would not be surprised if the match outcomes are similar initially.
