Hey everyone,

I have acceptances to these three schools. I really enjoyed my interview at BUCOM and OCOM. Orlando is nice, but I didn't really like Memphis as a city. However I feel like BUCOM is a stronger school based on curriculum and access to rotations. I know LMU is accredited, but it really does not seem as promising, considering new curriculum changes. Would appreciate insight from any current students at either schools or if anyone has heard anything.

Honestly, I can't recommend any of them. However at least LMU is established, whereas brand new schools have Growing Pains, often significant ones.
Alongside LMU's "mandatory" attendance policy, I would choose their new Florida campus, which would have growing pains too. This is why they aren't really a strong pick for me so far.

NOT OCOM for sure!
I understand that their first class did not fill up, but I'm not sure its that big of a deal. They could have just overestimated how many people would apply and were rejecting based on the class profile they wanted. Do you have any specific reasons?

A few reasons: A new school you have no stats on rotations, board pass rates, matching etc. AND the big one they don't take federal loans, you have to use private loans to pay.

Nobody takes federal loans anymore unfortunately. Not just OCOM. Big beautiful bill and all.
Moved to School X vs Y.

Do you still have interviews scheduled for other schools?
At this time, no.

Who told you this? This is just not true. Federal loans are 100% accepted at 99% MD/DO schools. You need to do a quick search. All the bill does is cap the amount. Doesn't kick in until July 1st, 2026, so if you matriculate in June you don't even have the cap and are grandfathered in.

I have heard from another accepted OCOM student the same thing when talking to them lol. Maybe their fin aid office is using this line to convince people their lack of federal loans doesn't matter?

Actually yes, that's what the financial aid person at OCOM told us in the interview lol. They said pre-accredited schools are not eligible for federal loans during the presentation.. So at this point I'm not sure if it's just OCOM that can't get federal loans or BUCOM as well. That does make a pretty big difference after all. I need to look into the cost difference at this point for federal vs non federal loans to see how significant it will be..
