Miami Anesthesia

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I know the Chair, and he seems to be a good guy. Smart, dynamic, and on the ball. It's also the only game on the whole southern peninsula, now that USF is closing.

Yeah, he is dynamic and that's why he started a new CRNA program.

sal abdi is running pain dept there - he is AWESOME as a pain physician (just the right balance of interventions and non-interventional management)

He is a business man from what i have heard. More bang for the buck...

yea, the chairman is an md mba. awesome guy. the whole program is phenomenal. the resident are also very happy.

hey, RE: miami -- i heard a rumor that call was Q4 for all years and that you only get one weekend off a month....is this true?!?!?
if not could you please set me straight?

dude i dont know. when i did my away rotation there none of the chief's complained. everyone had plenty of time to do extracurriculars and spend time with their significant others. noone complained and they all loved the program. why dont u try to contact the chief resident at the program and ask them?

The chair was one of my attendings at Duke. He since left and now is the chair at Miami. He is kind of a hard-ass, but that is a good think in residency. He was a stickler for details and made sure you really knew everything about the case. He is a sharp anesthesiologist. I imagine the program there is high quality. It would be hard to imagine him running a bad program.

If he started a CRNA program there, it was because of money. We had many CRNAs at Duke and it worked out well. Every day I did big cases. The CRNAs did the mundane cases. I think I did maybe 3 trachs the whole time I was there. So long as things are set up right, having CRNAs can be a good thing. They can make your life a lot better when 6 o'clock rolls around and you have been there since 6 a.m. and want to go home. Some of them were quite good and taught me a few tricks as well.

they are strong in every area. They get tons of numbers

They also lured Gitlin, a bigtime pain doc, away from his chair role at Tulane. A huge cou for the program.

Just ask him what his personal wet tap rate is compared to the average CA-2

Ask him how many tough cases he actually did in the last year.

I wonder if you would be as impressed if you knew the REAL numbers.

For the record, the person that everyone is referring to is David A. Lubarsky, primarily famous for being one of the co-authors of the Board Stiff books.

So what?
Does that make it ok for him to start a CRNA program?
Oh wait, I forgot, he needs CRNA's so the residents have better hours and can go to more lectures! then these CRNA's are forced by Lubrasky to never compete with his resdents in the job market 😉

It doesn't make it right or wrong. I just didn't like the fact that the person is never mentioned by name in the entire discussion.
