I understand that Michigan has rolling admission.

If one hasn't applied yet, is there still enough time to be competitive? Or are most of the seats taken by now?

From what I understand from a previous thread, MSU starts their first batch of interviews in December. So, as of now, there shouldn't be any seats taken. Even if you wait until the deadline, your application will still be considered, you will just interview later. My impression is that the advantage to applying early for MSU is slight. I would also check with MSU directly about their policies.

I interviewed in February during the first year of rolling admissions... they had only 6 seats left- 15 interviews/day x 5 days that week... thought my chances were slight, but I got in.

From what I understand from talking to Hilda (our admissions director), very few of the out-of-stater seats (30 or so per year) are even interviewed for until December- and no OOS applicant gets in without an interview. If you have further questions about this, I personally know everyone in the admissions office (like, have them over to dinner with hubby and I know them), and they are all super sweet and helpful and answer every inane question that you can think of. Call if you are confused.

Having just been through the process, I'll chime in. My understanding from last year, was they did a round of interviews (both in-state and out-of-state) in October for people who submitted vmcas before Sept. 1. My round of interviews were the first week in December, and Hilda seemed to indicate that everyone has submitted before Sept. 15. Then, the bulk of interviews were held in Feb. How many seats were left when I got in, in Dec. I have no idea.

Hilda is very nice (as is everyone in admissions at MSU). If you have questions for them, like Jenn said, contact them. They know it best.

To answer your original question, no I don't think it's too late at all. I would, however submit as soon as your ready, and as soon as possible.
