Having trouble with these three programs in the middle of my ROL... I have a family so location is important, but really hoping to tease out which of these would provide the best training though I get the feeling they are all going to be about the same. Life goals: private practice DR in a community setting.

Allegheny- I liked the location better than the other 2. Procedure heavy which I liked, few fellows.
Beaumont- Hospital was really nice, these guys seemed to kill it moonlighting... not thrilled about location, not sure about effects of new merger, case volume/education.
MCW- Enjoyed the faculty, seemed like the most solid program all around. Milwaukee seemed kinda sucky.

  1. Milwaukee is a supremely underrated city. Sure it isn't Chicago or NYC, but that isn't really a fair comparison. It also is super close to Chicago. MKE has a great music and food culture . I think MCWs program is really great, especially their IR. They are also a GE testing site if I am not mistaken.

Beaumont is not the most research-heavy place, but they have really good teaching from what I've heard. The hospital is huge too and gets insane volume, might be the biggest single hospital in the state. I don't think the case volume would be an issue there, and it's also got a Level 1 trauma center and plenty of advanced programs (transplant, oncology, neuro, etc) that case mix likely won't be a huge issue. The residents there seem very happy with the quality of the education and their graduates have gone on to many big name fellowships (although this seems true at nearly every program).
