Yeah I plan on attending, I have one other interview but really like Midway. I was impressed with the faculty and how nice everybody was. My wife and I like the small town atmosphere, and the school is alot closer to family than where we live now.
🙂

For me the only uncertainty with the school is there status with ACPE. I believe they will have no problem earning pre-candidate status, the faculty has been involved in many pharmacy schools, and Dr. Bleidt has opened 4 schools, so I have confidence it what they are doing at Midway.

Ditto. For them to be sending out acceptances, basically means that they are offically in "pre-candidate" status right?

I have a few other schools to consider so I haven't made a final decision yet. I really liek Midway & their faculties. It would be cool to be a part of the first alumni. They're only giving us until April 13 to either accept & decline.

I've only have a few uncertainties about their status as well. I've heard of new schools that got shut down (eg. Hawaii) & students have to reapply again. Otherwise, I would choose this school.

I was interviewed on the 23rd, morning group C. I just got my acceptance email! So excited!!!

I was having the same concerns but then realized that within the last couple of years there`ve have been many new schools and none has failed yet. The only school that ever failed was the one in Hawaii and i guess after that, ACPE became stricter with thier regulations. So if Midway is awarded the pre-candidate status, then we're off to a very good start.

Midway has a curriculum that incorporates patient care with leaderhip skills which i haven`t seen with many schools. That attracts me.

I wouldn't worry too much about accreditation. Like the person before me said, only that one school in Hawaii failed. From what I understand, that school had some other issues going on

On an unrelated note, I think it is funny that Midway has fake pictures of students when the first class hasn't even started yet.

I got the letter from Midway today saying that they will be delaying when the school opens. There was some ambiguity in the letter, and I'm not sure if the school will be opening in January or August of 2012.

I'm not sure who exactly was mentioning about Midway as a whole -- but Midway College is an excellent school by choice. Professors/Staff are very well addressed and do ultimately care for their students. If feeling any doubts about the school and not just getting status/credits - please take a glance at their Nursing Program. Its -rather- seen as top notch in the area and in the state of Kentucky. I know its a whole different ball game, but its at least something that might give you an idea. - Just my two pieces of advice here. lol

Do any of you think that students that have been accepted will withdrawal because of the delay?

Does anybody have any recent info on the school? And for people that have gotten acceptances for fall... can you guys post some stats? I'm thinking of applying here for the next cycle, but I'm still wary.

I am really hoping they will open in January. If they do not open this school year they may face a loss of credibility.

I was happy to get accepted, but I will look into other options if they delay for too long.

One of the posters was wondering about stats. Here are mine:
GPA: 3.4-ish
PCAT: around 80
Pharmacy experience: A little

For those who are still watching this thread:

Midway has been granted an on-site visit by the accreditation board this fall. From what I understand, the earliest Midway could open at this point is January.

Also, for you that got accepted..how are you paying for school?? I was told by a friend that non accredited schools you don't get any federal loans. Its all private loans. Is that true?

My understanding is that the school must be regionally accredited for you to get student loans. Midway is already regionally accredited so this should not be a problem. They told me I will be getting a student loan packet in the mail.

Is anyone interviewing Nov 18 2011 ? this was the only thread I could find on Midway. Im coming from california...Coming in a few days early. Seems like the closest and cheapest airport was Huntington..can you guys give me some ideas about the area and where I should check out...are most planning to live in town or towns around it?

Huntington is the closest airport. If you are looking for a hotel, I recommend staying at the Paintsville Ramada, It's pretty close to the school.

Seems like most people I've talked to are living near the school, although I know some are living out in Prestonsburg. Housing is inexpensive here but most of the rentals are either townhouses or apartments. If you want to rent an actual house, you will have to work a bit to find one.

Thanks for a great answer. I was really worried about that. I almost thought about not going to the interview because 31k for 4 years accruing interest would be crazy once I was done.

Im trying to look into apartments online, nothing is listed with pictures. Could you post some input on good names to start looking. If I get in, I don't want to make another trip out just to look for a place to live. Going to check the area out as much as possible.

Hey!

I have an interview Nov 19,2011 coming from California also! I was having the hardest time looking for flights and I do believe Huntington HTS is the closest airport. I also saw we still needed to drive an hr to the school... Have you gotten any insights yet on the area etc?

Thanks!
Kathy

Hey..yea i booked through delta i think, but headed up thursday-sunday to save on the flight a little bit and look around the area...there are no online listings for apartments and craigslist seems dead for that area....im flying into hts too...and driving in..the prices on their hotel lists are wrong...im definitely going to check around the area and look into apartments. hopefully the staff will be around and maybe some of the accepted first class?

i did learn that yes you will get government loans. They just need regional accreditation for that and have received it. The first class will start fall of 2012, so we are interviewing for slots into that class. Spring 2012 is when they have their schedule to be visiting by the pharmacy board.

If we are going to be the first class in 2012, Then what happened to the students that were accepted to supposedly start fall 2011 already?

I believe we are filling the open spots from that class. If someone from that class would chime in, it would be nice.

How was your interview? Driving at night through town in the middle of nowhere was quite interesting.... knowing that we are from California! haha

Good luck to us!

In all I think it went well. Which one were you? there were only 9 of us, but not much time to really talk to everyone. That critical thinking exam was a little intense, but the actual interview was good. They were easy to talk to.

The roads are really dark at night, i was afraid deer were going to jump out and total the rental

I can't believe anyone outside of the immediate Paintsville area would think of attending this school. The cost, desolation, and problems with getting their program started should be enough to make most people run away screaming.

If you guys that got accepted don't mind me asking. What were you credentials?

Is this school any good? i am thinking of applying here ??

Thanks

They are no longer midway...Email I got

The University of Charleston (UC) in Charleston, WV, and Midway College (Midway) in Midway, KY, have signed a letter of intent outlining a proposal for UC to establish and operate a branch of its pharmacy school at the Midway College Paintsville campus. In support of this proposal, Midway College has notified the Accreditation Council of Pharmacy Education (ACPE) that it will not continue with its application for accreditation. As such, students in the 2011-12 application cycle who have paid application related fees to Midway College should visit the Midway website, www.midway.edu/pharmacy, and complete the refund application form to request a refund of application related fees. Requests must be submitted on or before April 30, 2012. For questions regarding the refund process, please contact Dr. Emily Coleman, [email protected] or Dr. Sarah Laws, [email protected], 606-789-2909.

so what will happened to all those accepted students to Midway ??? I know South COP (in TN) accepted students last cycle are still wondering around

it sounded like midway college is no more. Its now UC. I am not 100 percent sure though. I would call the school. I got accepted elsewhere as well so I will not be going here. It does suck for those who spent money to interview here. This form only will reimburse fees to apply to the school.

I went ahead an submitted for lodging expenses for the interview as well. From the other SDN threads it seems that accepted applicants will have to re-apply to UC for admittance. I too was accepted elsewhere so I feel bad for those commited.

hmm..i just resubmitted for lodging and flight. I'll see what they'll come back with. I did deny my offer, but I think that in these circumstances, I should get reimbursed because I was going to go there if no other school accepted me.
