Midwestern, CCP (c/o 2016)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was accepted too! Takes a load off my shoulders to have at least one school already.

Yeah, right? At first, Midwestern wasn't my first choice, because it was the most expensive one (though the others didn't trail far behind, since I only applied to all OOS, private schools 🙁).

But then, after doing some research on accreditation status, it looks like among all the schools I applied to, Midwestern has been accredited the second-longest (20 years), though this doesn't count the satellite campuses connected to main campuses, which are much older... I'm not sure how accreditation rules work there.

Congratulations everyone! I am interviewing on November 9th. Anyone wanna add some extra tips? Thanks mucho 🙂

Yes... have fun! Don't be 'that guy' who sits in his seat and doesn't say a word the whole time, because he's too busy counting the tiles on the floor and/or ceiling. Speak up, make small talk with those around you during the in-between moments (you will have lots of 'off-time' in between presentations/interviews/writing samples/etc...). The other applicants will probably be a bit nervous, and thus very open to conversation. Opening up and sharing a good laugh over this and that always takes the edge off, and makes the trip that much more memorable.

Wow, I guess my experience wasn't too far off from everyone else's, haha. You guys interviewed on Friday, and got the news on Tuesday. Sounds about right, haha.

Beats having to wait the alleged "5 weeks", huh? Congratulations everyone!

I'm in too! That was pretty quick though, just interviewed last week, no emails or anything...

Hey congrats guys!!! So how did you guys find out that you got in??? Did you guys receive an email or what???

I am getting really nervous now!!! I interviewed on Oct 14th too!! i haven't heard back and my interviewer didn't have too much expression on his face!! i really wanna go to this school.....i hope i could make it in!!!

congrats everyone! To those still waiting, don't despair! The waitlist runs pretty quick. Just be patient.

I received a phone call when I was accepted. 👍

Try checking the student portal, see if 'accepted student checklist' shows up.

I got accepted too! Woohoo! 👍 The thing is, Glendale took me first, so I'm going there instead.

ya'll hear anything yet? I like the idea of a quick turnaround for a decision. But I just submitted, so I'm not anxious about getting an invite yet. good luck everyone

so i have my interview on Nov. 9th. my question is to those who have had their interview. did most guys wear suits to the interview? i'm asking because if that's the case, i need to buy mine asap. lol.

Yeah, most guys wore suits. I just put on a pair of black pants, button-up dress shirt with tie, and black loafers... Didn't wanna bother with the whole deal 😀

thanks. yeah, that's what i had in mind too, but from what i've read on here, its best to wear a suit on the interview.

Got put on the dreaded alternate list....:annoyed: oh well moving on to other schools.

So I just the official "You're in!" letter in the mail... and at the bottom, it casually mentioned that they want a copy of a valid Illinois pharmacy tech license prior to matriculation. What gives?! This was never mentioned in the requirements for admission!

Most all schools require that you get tech licensed before matriculation. Since you will be going on rotations it is a liability if you are not.

But if you are already tech licensed in a different state, would that be suffice?

Midwestern Glendale didn't say anything about an Arizona tech license in the acceptance letter.

I'm hoping for this too. Though after I got PTCB certified, getting licensed in CA was mostly paperwork (no additional exams). If getting licensed in Illinois is the same, it probably wont be a big deal.

Edit: I called them later today. The Ca license (or any other state license) won't do, they want the Illinois license. Good news is that they said it was just sending in paperwork.

So of those who got accepted, are you planning on going to Midwestern?

I am waiting on one more interview/decision. Mostly just because UMKC will be cheaper since I am from Missouri originally. However, I really like Midwestern and know some students in the DO program. They all seem to like it.

Hey jkong,
You mentioned in ur earlier posts that it is a lottery wait list!! But do they wait until they finish interviewing everybody to start on the alternate list or do they do they work on a parallel basis?? I am on the alternate list after October 14th interview....so do I need to wait all the way until may or June??

Hye345,

If you don't mind...could you give me some information on how to apply for the Illinois state license please?? My Texas state board license takes forever to get!! So I just want to get started earlier instead of waiting till the last moment!!! I would really appreciate it!!

Sure. Here is the link for completing it online (or so I've been told):

https://www.idfpr.com/applications/OnlineLicensing/

Profession: Ill. pharmacy board
credential: pharmacy technician

As far as completing it early: when I emailed Midwestern about it, they said that its probably best if itscompleted after March 2012, since licenses expire on March 31 of each year (we would have to pay again then). I doubt it takes long though, I was looking at old Midwestern threads, and when this topic was bought up, people said that it was a very short, non-bureaucratic process.

Its a tough decision. I will probably put down the $1000 deposit, since Midwestern is one of my top choices, the other being Creighton (though they haven't called for an interview yet 🙁 ). Out of the 7 schools I applied to, those two are the most 'established' ones, which in light of all the new schools, probably means something...

I do like how Midwestern is purely a graduate healthcare institution though, it would probably be more motivating to be surrounded by people who are going down the same career/industry path.

I got accepted too, class of 2016!! =)
But I kinda wanted UIC more, hopefully I get an interview and acceptance before I pay 1000 deposit to Midwestern :xf:

i thought the deposit was 500?

The Illinois Tech license isn't a huge deal... I applied online and got approved in less than 1 minute...strange considering CA makes you get live fingerprints and a long process turnover.

Just make sure you get the regular tech license. Not the certified or student (the system is so messed up it doesn't matter anyway).

That is a really great question, and I really don't know 🙁 I want to say parallel but don't take my word for it.

How much does it costs to apply for the Illinois Pharm Tech license?

to those of who already interviewed, how was the written portion of the interview?

Pretty easy. We had half an hour for the writing sample, and it asked an ethical question of sorts.

Hey guys
I was just wondering how the supplemental was. I am going to send my PharmCas app this week and I wanted to get a head start on my supplemental app.

after you guys submitted your supplemental, about how long did it take for midwestern to get back to you about interviews?? thanks! 🙂

haha thanks jkong. Hopefully, you will be one of the faces I see there next Wednesday 🙂 Do you have any last minute tips for the interview? Do the interviewers give you time to ask them questions and do they interrupt while you talk and comment on your answers? I never had a group interview before and I am extremely nervous about this 😱

Don't be nervous, the interview is extremely laid back. Just check the SDN "interview thread" and don't be an asshat. You're going to do great!

Just review SDN Interview Feedback and come with your genuine, sincere self. The interviewers have a sheet of suggested questions and I'm sure it's on SDN. 🙂 Nothing to be worried about, build on each other's answers and be professional.

Just remember to avoid stepping on green Geese poo!

Weather says it's going to rain so come prepared. :xf:

Thanks. I felt like it wasn't nervous at all. We got to socialize before our interview which helped to overcome that awkwardness of sitting in a room with strangers. I believe I did okay (not the best) in the interview part. Hopefully we will all get in pretty soon :xf:

Got an interview offer but I can't make the date that was given. Has anyone had to reschedule? I was told to just camp out on the site and check for the next opening, have people had luck with that?

Check the portal again in 1-2 days. Hopefully the next interview date (the following month) will be posted for you to RSVP.

i was wondering how long it takes for them to send the supplementary application after the receive your pharmCAS.
My pharmcas application was sent to them on 10/31 and I have not heard anything at all from them not even an email saying they got my application.

thanks

I sent mine Sept 3rd and got an email invite for the supp on Oct 3rd. Then I got a letter in the mail about a week after showing a supp. invite as well.

Lol I found this thread today, after the interview yesterday. But I was there too! I was in the second group of people to interview as well, group #5. We probably totally ran into each other haha
