Heyyyy everyone...
I was just skimming through the posts here and looks like a lot of people has been accepted and waitlisted already. I wasnt planning on applying to Midwestern since i didnt want to go out of state...(especially because of the money 🙁 ). Now i have finally made up my mind and decided to appy anyway...but is it too late to apply?

There have been approx 105 interviews after today's session. If they truly interview around 500, then they have interviewed just over 20% of those attending interviews. There's still plenty of time for you.

They told us they would be interviewing into April. If they do 2 groups a month, then at maximum 36 slots per session x 14 sessions = 504. If this logic is true, then there are 11 interview days remaining.

Thanx for tht quick response cdhoward 🙂

It makes me feel a little better.....i was really hesitant to apply because they are private and out of state....does anyone know how much is the approximate tuition for out of state students at midwestern? I couldnt find it in their website...or may be i wasnt looking at the right place !!

I am pretty set on Mercer. Their program has the most to offer in prestige, clinical rotations, job opportunities, research, alumni base, and national recognition. If any of you get a chance to interview at Mercer, check out their historic display area. They are one of the oldest pharmacy schools in the nation being established in 1903.

I'm hoping to get an interview invite from Mercer after they receive my new PCAT score in Dec. Good luck to you at Mercer, although you still have 9 months from now until school starts!

Thanks for the update. I was 7K off 😱.

Did you ever get an official letter from MWU-CCP?
I was surprised they waitlisted me. But I was also surprised that the cost is too high when they talked about financial aid. I think even if I am accepted, I will not go to Midwestern anyway. I do not wan to own more than 200k by the time that I graduate. It is better go to a cheaper school.

Have you gotten accepted to anywhere yet? What if Midwestern is the only school you get accepted? Will you still go there?

I was surprised they waitlisted me too. I honestly thought I was set to go, especially when I compared my stats to some of my friends' stats from last year. I guess I jinxed myself. Or maybe my interview was crap, which I really didn't think was the case.

But anyway, I agree tuition is so expensive. But yet, I still would definitely go if I get in! I also interviewed at Mercer a few weeks ago, but I prefer Midwestern over Mercer. Mercer just wasn't my cup of tea... But I may be biased because I *love* Chicago. 😛

People, let this be a lesson to everyone
please, stop comparing your "stats" to other applicants. As you can tell by this post and tons of other posts, stats aren't an accurate representation of how you compare to other applicants.
Asking for stats just adds to the anxiety that comes with applying to pharmacy school...1. its unnecessary stress and 2. it doesn't tell you anything.

rant over.

I concur. No one release their stats ever again please! :meanie:

That's not likely to happen. Let me be the first to post their stats since the request has been made...

I've had a change of heart. In an effort to not increase anxiety levels, I thought I would post my stats in a range as not to disclose my true stats...

GPA is 1.0-4.0
PCAT is 1-99%

😆

Since I fall in the same range, I guess I'm also guaranteed admissions

I had another interview with Nova on oct 22, and going to have one in Nov 14 at PBA. Even if Midwestern is the only school that accepts me, I think I will not go there. You know 200k is a lot of money to own. By the time you graduate, it might take more than 10 years to pay off. I am rather wait for 1 year and get in the school near the place I live, and save 9 years paying off my loan.

Haha. I hope you know I was being as sarcastic as you were!

My stats happen to fall within that range too. WOW!

FOr out of state students, it is 52k total.

Just looking at the price of tuition is stressing me out....

Some of these pharmacy schools (especially California pharmacy schools) are making tons of money.

OH, I want to add to your point, that's JUST school. Sometimes people forget additional money you end up borrowing while going to school. $200k is a lot, but imagine $200k plus any other loans. That would be insane!

I think the 200k includes some of housing and personal expenses in it...I remember it being good for a humble lifestyle...👍

If you want to go to midwestern CCP, or any other pharmacy schools that costs 40K+ per year then get ready for the 30 year or 40 year repayment plan.

Don't be surprised; many pharmacists I know are on this plan and its alright.

word of advice: If you and your spouse both have pharmacy school loans, please don't combine the two. If either of the two end up dying before repayment is complete (knock on wood), the surviving spouse is responsible for paying the combined loan amount in the end.

🙂

Ah yes, I am looking at all that now. I do like how Glendale is a 3 year school. Done faster, cheaper overall tuition, start paying off sooner, etc.

Kind of. You can pay off your loan as quickly or as slowly as you like(within your signed agreement). I know my pharmacist said she paid hers off in just a few years by moving in with her parents. All depends on your loan. Gotta read the paperwork before you sign!

I totally agree. If you stay single and move back in with your parents, then you can definitely pay it off within a few years.

But then again, you'll have to taken in account of the unexpected. Most graduates change their minds during school or after graduation. For example, female pharmacists have a biological clock and some want to get married and have children while they are still young.

Most of the time, marriage comes with preparing for a wedding, buying a house, and many unexpected expenses we don't think about right now...

Plus, having children definitely means more expenses.

This is why many graduates are on a 20, or 30 year repayment plan. And there is nothing wrong with just trying to live the life you want.

sometimes, I hear a lot of pharmacists talk about it so it makes me wonder what I would do if I ever get into pharmacy school and graduate with a pharmD....🙂

get married to someone who also makes atleast 6 figures. Then while one person is paying all expenses the other can pay off loans and then switch off. i'm pretty sure two people can live off a 100k salary, although not luxuriously obviously.

I'm pretty sure two people can live off of 100k no problem. I've been living off 30K a year on my own for the last 2 years. (I obviously had no life and was studying whenever I was not working)

Get married to someone who also makes 6 figures? This might be easier said than done. I think this task might be a little easier for a girl than a guy...(I could be wrong)

If the perception of fairness is accepted by the couple, then I can see your plan working out.

I can't predict the future, so I'm gonna go into this loan repayment plan ordeal on my own.

Work 6 days a week, Save, and Invest wisely

For the people who already got an interview at midwestern, can you please tell me how much time you guys generally spend on answering each question?

you can take as long as you need.

Ohh my goodness...these tution figures are making me dizzy!!!!!!!
Now i am not so sure about applying...because i already have loans from my undergrad and to add 200k to that...its going to be crazyyyy...

I agree with you. However it just really hurts my confidence, when I have a friend who scored a 98 on his PCAT and didn't do anything else during his time in undergrad. No pharmacy experience, no volunteering, no ECs, his GPA was just average. Plus he didn't apply until close to the deadline. And yet he was still accepted the first time around.

But okay, I'll stop being bitter. 😉

hey everyone: in terms of prestige/reputation which school is better, shennandoah cp or midwestern CCP?

Lepamplemousse, either way you look at it 98 is very impressive...Anyone who receives this score deserves to be admitted to any college requiring the PCAT granted the person has an average GPA (3.0 or higher). As difficult as it seems, you have to understand that competency can never be compensated through ECs, volunteering, or work experience.

I disagree with that. I know he is an intelligent person, but the fact that he did not make any effort during his undergrad shows me that he is not very hard-working. A high PCAT score doesn't guarantee that you'll make a good pharmacist, especially if you lack the motivation and experience.

As long as the your friend is really interested in studying pharmacy and is a good student, experience can easily be gained in pharmacy school through rotations in many different working envrionments (hospital, retail). By definition, any professional school will require some motivation to do well. I will agree with you that a high PCAT score does not necessarily make a great pharmacist. However, a high PCAT score makes the admission's process much easier for an applicant to become accepted into a pharmacy school which evaluates his performance on the test.

I was invited for an interview and I just had a quick question for those of you who have already gone on an interview and hopefully been accepted (congrats! hopefully I will see y'all there).

It says the day will conclude at 1PM in the confirmation email. I just wanted to make sure that it includes the campus tour. Does the entire thing end at 1PM or only the mandatory stuff. Are there more things to do after 1PM? I don't want to miss anything.

I am just trying to figure out my flight home. Also, can I reasonably make a 3:00PM flight out of Midway (assuming it is approximately a 30 minute drive from campus to the airport and I am not checking luggage if everything ends at 1PM).

And one last thing. How is the Comfort Inn near the campus?

Thanks in advance.

I just had an interview this past week there. The mandatory part ends a little after 12. After that is the campus tour, which I believe ended around 12:45. If you want to stay and eat after the tour, you get a free lunch at the cafeteria. I went through O'Hare and I believe the taxi ride was about 20-30 minutes (I believe Midway is about the same distance as O'Hare). It was also only $32-35 each way for the taxi ride from American Taxi. Comfort Inn is about 5 minutes away from the campus. So if everything goes as planned, a 3:00PM flight should be manageable. Congrats on receiving an interview and goodluck!

hey blue88, ill be in the comfort inn that day too. Hope to see you there. iono how im going to recognize u tho lol.

Does anybody know if we can take our luggage to the university?

I'm thinking of getting a taxi from campus to the airport (so i dont have to go back to the hotel after the interview)

im also staying at the comfort inn.

Yes, I saw some people carrying their luggages with them to campus. The people there will watch the luggage for you.

Thanks for the info.

Would it be bad to skip out on the lunch and leave right after the tour?? I don't want to give them a bad impression or anything. 😉

I just figured I would leave around 1 from the campus. Go back to the hotel (Comfort Inn) and change and check out and then drive to Midway. I am renting a car BTW. I figure I should get to the airport around 2 - 2:15 for a 3PM flight.

I would really like to make the 3:00PM flight because if I have to take a later one I would have to wait until 8:00PM.

your tour guide most likely will eat with you and answer any questions, but I don't think they influence the decision process at all. you could very well just sneak out of there during the tour 😀

i'm currently a PS2 at CCP, out of state..and personally for me the tuition estimate is a bit higher than what I actually spent..no way will I be over 200K in debt!

the tour groups are usually guided by current students (some of my friends volunteered) and they don't have a say in the admissions process. I doubt they'd even notice if you left haha

It's nice to be back after disappearing from SDN over the past year. Let me know if you guys have any questions/concerns. Glad to help!

**btw, it's starting to snow over here, so prepare yourself, you winter-interviewees!

forgot to mention, lunch wasn't mandatory at my visit. I stayed for the tour (pretty short), and booked out after that since lunch is really just gloried cafeteria food in the Commons.

Since it is a bit higher than you have spent, I would think it can be 198k in debt!

Who said it'll cost 200k? I wonder where that number came from. If anything, it's probably 160K at most. This school actually costs slightly less than the university I currently attend for undergrad. School is an investment! 🙂

you're right! school is an investment..especially if you attend a private school. 🙂

200K just came from a comment from 5minutes, who got waitlisted at CCP but said even if accepted, he/she wouldn't attend since it will cost 200K. At MOST, my debt would be around 150, 160K (and that's without any help from my family). Look on the bright side..we are actually paying less than the D.O. students here 😀

The 200K comment comes from the estimated cost of living being calculated as well. MWU says that tuition/fees/cost of living comes to an estimated 52K/year.

That is exactly what I saw onthier financial aid packet. 52k/year for out of state. For instate, a little bit less.

I just got in Nova Southeastern University. Their tuition is 22k a year for out of state. The school location is 25 minutes away from where I live right now. By the time I finish the program, I own less than 90k. However, by the time you finish the program at CCP, you own at least 190k without any help from relatives.

90K? Seriously? How are you going to pull that off? Tuition alone is 88K. You still have living expenses for 4 years.

UIC only costs $64,000 for all four years, not including housing. Thats why most students choose UIC over Midwestern, since UIC happens to be cheaper AND more prestigious.

Maybe I should apply to NOVA! I have relatives in Florida (West Palm Beach in fact), so maybe I could just live with them. I don't know why I haven't thought of that before 🙂

Oh gosh. I have a friend who is pursuing a DO degree there, and he said he was paying more than 50 grand a year. Insane. 😱
