Midwestern, Glendale 2012 class

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
A few people already mentioned this but they seem to be pretty good at looking at the overall applicant.
My GPA was just under 3.0 and my PCAT was only 65 and I was accepted without being waitlisted. I guess I made up for my low stats with my pharmacy experience and starting my own pre-pharmacy club (which now has 135 members 😀). I guess it also didn't hurt my chances when one of my fellow interviewees admitted to cussing at a patient.

When did you submit your application?

My supplemental and everything was received at MWU on Tuesday. Hopefully I hear from them within a few weeks. 😳

I recieved the supplemental 09/26 but didn't fill it out until 10/05. I was offered an interview about a day and a half later but probably because I turned it in pretty early. I think you'll hear from them soon (maybe a week or two at the most) because they seem to really be on top of things compared to the other schools I applied to

I played small forward/shooting guard back in my H.S. days. I haven't played a lot of organized ball in my college years though (damn work/school) but I'm getting myself back into shape now

Gonnabe is sad that he broke the MWU thread with his basketball talk so on to other things! WHO LIKES KITTIES?!

In all seriousness, anyone bringing their pets to MWU/Glendale? I spoke to a girl on campus and she said some girl actually had 3 dogs with her in a small apartment. o_o

im thinking about that every single day. i dont want to part with my coconut, but he cant survive the arizona heat.

I plan to keep my kitties, as I will still be living in my house.

Can't imagine 3 dogs in a tiny apartment though :meanie:

/ hey, I am missing 1 grand from my account, too !

Just keep Coconut inside and he'll be fine. Of course, you'll have to clean out his cage more often so that it doesn't smell.

I love kitties! I hope they will be invited to the study group! 😀

I like kitties.. as long as they don't have super long claws to scratch me with :x

I don't have any pets but I might consider getting a puppy once I get settled into pharm school life. I really want a Japanese Spitz. Soooooo cuteeeee!

MWU your top choice? Sorry if this is discussed, I'm so out of it these days. November is not a good month!

UCSF is my top, though highly unlikely. As for what's after it's still a debate between MWU, Pacific Oregon & LECOM Erie, assuming I get into them.

If UCSF is one of your consideration I dont think you will have any problem getting into them.
my gf is getting ready for UCSF interview, heard it's a pretty grueling process. Good luck! you'll do great!

lololol actually I only applied to UCSF for the heck of it so that by if some miracle I do get an interview, I can say that I did 😀 My GPA and PCAT scores aren't very stellar, they're okay I think. Just not... up there.

I like kitties. I have 4, all adopted or strays. Burger, Mrs. Wu, Highway, Pita

2 kitties, both adopted from HALO rescue. 😀 Living at my house, so keeping them won't be a problem.

My tuxedo is named Cleo. She's pretty much a normal cat with a burmese voice and impeccable balance.

My flamepoint siamese defies naming. He decided he liked "Foof Cat." He thinks he's a people, and he likes cheese and tomato soup. Most of the time he's pretty chill but he's not-so-secretly a scaredy cat.

I typically like dogs better but don't have time to properly care for one.

There is a hole where that $1 used to be in front of my savings ($1XXX). 🙁

After last night, my bank account officially went down to triple digits.
So I'm worth you guys on the emptiness here.

I'm so jealous of all you guys who are allowed to have pets D: My dad hates pets so I'm not allowed to have one as long as I live with my family ;~;

my mom dont like pets as well, but then she realized who pays the bills.

LOL i kid i kid.

my mom really dont like pets but i live outside so it's okay. Not very convenient when I stay at home and poor coconut is just hanging out alone for a few hours.

LOLLLL! I'm hoping once I live on my own for pharm school and get a dog, that when I come home to visit and bring it along my dad will just have to accept it, even if he makes the dog stay outside. It's kinda sad really cuz my both my brothers and my mom likes dogs, but my dad is the only one who doesn't :x Andd.. he's the one paying all them bills. lololol

dog is alot to handle though in pharm school. you gotta spend time to clean after/play with/ and just other things when youre trying to study and learn the material.

maybe a turtle will be cool. just chilling by itself and dont really mind you.

That's true.. especially if I get a puppy which would need a lot of time for training x_x

I've heard a turtle's poop is REALLY REALLY STINKY. Not exactly what I'd have in mind as a conducive environment to studying. :x

If you get into UCSF, you deserve a dog lol

How come you want to go to LECOM? I didnt even go to my interview...its just way too far from home. At Midwestern, I can fly home every so often or every holiday if I want to. Gotta love southwest!

Because tuition there is cheeeeeeeeeep. LOL. And even now when I'm living in Socal 4 hrs away from home or when I lived in Norcal 2 hrs away from home, I only went home for summer, spring break, thanksgiving break, and winter break. My parents only "say" they want me to go to school close, but they don't really "visit" me. It's just a convenience that's there should there be some dire need, but there really isn't.

Siamese cats look awesome!

Over all, I think I like dogs more as well but I feel like if I were to get one right now, I would be neglecting it. It takes 1-3 months just to properly train a puppy to do his business outside! That and we'd be on campus from 8-4 so if I get one dog, it'll probably end up depressed.

For those considering doggies, might I recommend getting a 6+ year old dog from the pound? They're free and the majority of them are already potty trained! Yes, there is still that loneliness aspect for when you're at pharmacy school but it's better than getting euthanized or spending its whole life in the pound.

My parents both hate pets but I'm stubborn as hell so I've had pets my whole life. Currently, I have two syrian hamsters. ^__^

I think Japanese Spitzes are really rare though 🙁 Probably not easy to find one at a pound. I've searched just to see how much the puppies cost and they're like $600+ >_>

I haven't had time for a dog either. Instead, I have a rabbit. He's litterbox trained, low maintenance, and needs about an hour of off-and-on attention a day while he's running around. If I give him too much attention he gets moody, so it's become a good relationship with all my studying 👍

LOL I have a rabbit too. His brown fur with some white patches, thats why I call him coconut.

Hes a chubby boy that likes to stare out the window...weird stuff. If I leave him in the cage when I go home he gets grumpy but when the cage is open he just hops out and lay at his spot for hours.

I didn't know rabbits could be litter trained. 😀 I wanna play with all the fluffy things!

If my gf and I both get into midwestern we are thinking about getting a kitty 😀
I wanted to get in on this conversation hahaha

I really hope I get in though :scared: turning my stuff in this week and I have a much less then awesome cGPA but my PCAT was relatively solid I think 😎

He picked up pretty quick on it--within the first three days of bringing him home actually. I was pleasantly suprised because it has made cleanup really easy 🙂 I have his whole cage carpeted so all I need to do is clean out the litterbox and just pick up hay he might have thrown everywhere once and a while. Normally he only does that when he's angry at me though

Fingers crossed! Honestly, I'm so jelly of all the couples pursuing pharmacy together. lol If only I can convince my bf to switch from med school to pharm school!

One of my hamsters fling out his poo from the second story of his cage. I tell myself they're too stupid to be doing it out of vengeance but I'm sure rabbits are a bit smarter. It looks like our class is going to be full of animal lovers! 😀 Which kinda brings me to the questions: did anyone consider veterinarian school before pharmacy school? What made you guys pick pharm?

Actually she's going for Dental 🙄 not that I get why, I mean other than the paycheck, staring down peoples mouths for a living has to be about as fun as it sounds.

But I digress, I can just taunt her with all my drug skills while she tries to slash at me with those horrible metal implements.

I wish I am at my gf's level.
I'll just go stand in the corner now.

Seriously though, it drives her crazy when I go on and on about organic chem or what ever I learned working at the pharmacy that day. Luckily she's patient as it gets and we get a long so well haha.

Back on topic, anyone else feel like this is the longest semester/fall ever?? I'm glad Midwestern has such a good record of getting back to applicants so fast, I will be stressing about it for weeks after I get this in finally. I just want to find out!

I wish I had a significant other to complain about.. >_> I'll just go pout in my emo corner now. ;~;

LOLLL jkjk XD

aww maybe youll find someone in school and "study" together lol

thank god my gf doesnt want to go to midwestern, i'll flunk out after first quarter.

I do feel like this is terribly long time though (not a semester for me since im old and graduated 🙁 ) everyday I sit at work and just want to go home and watch TV all day or start school already.

By the way, anyone know how Midwestern in particular looks at repeated classes?

I had a bad first year... really bad... But I have taking nearly every class over and earned an A in almost all repeated courses. I know PharmCAS takes it all but I was wondering how Midwestern evaluates it.

I forgot to ask this question last time I visited, if anyone has any experience with this sharing is greatly appreciated 🙂

Not really sure but did you wow the interviewer? It's a closed file interview so if they give you an excellent feedback, should be worth plenty as well.

I have 2 repeat classes due to flunking first year. I think they view it with leniency.

As long as you come back and do well later on, thats worth way more than a struggling first year. I'm no adcom but I'd assume they care more about an A in physiology, microbiology, biochemistry than D in intro bio.

Haven't interviewed yet, hope to wow them though haha

Thanks for the info guys, I might sleep a bit easier now 😎

Hahahah "study".... yea, it might be best if I don't find someone since it may be too distracting. Though my mom is always telling me I HAVE to find someone in pharm school or else by the time I get to working, all the guys will be taken. lololol.

I dont think it will necessary be distracting since you both will be studying at the same time. One studying and one working is hard to manage.
