I understand that each school has their own minimal GPA requirements. However I would like to know if these GPA's are set in stone? Has anyone applied to a school with a GPA lower than the minimal requirement? Or does PharmCas right away prohibit you from applying to those schools?

The people that applied from my school with below than required GPA, were rejected automatically. They received emails within some time from the schools telling them their applications for admission are not going to be considered because they don't meet the minimal requirements.

I suggest you speak to the schools before you waste your money on pharmcas. I also strongly suggest that you either apply to the schools that have lower GPA requirements or take an additional year to strengthen your application and raise your GPA. When the competition for each spot is so intense and wild, you truly have to be a phenomenal candidate with a mind blowing application to outshine the GPA on the lowest end of GPA spectra.

Thnx for the scoop.

If the school lists a "minimal gpa requirement", it usually means its set in stone. IF it doesn't, then you can still apply. Just keep in mind, minimal gpa requirement or not, if your gpa is lower than a 2.8 gpa.....good luck.

Your best bet is to call them and ask directly. I doubt anyone can answer this question better than the admissions office. 😉

Yeah... just sent them an email. Thanks.

To be completely honest with you. If there is a minimum gpa stated, and when you call they tell you that you can apply regardless of your gpa, i wouldn't. With how competitive pharmacy school is, your chances of being accepted with a below minimum gpa are probaly less likely than winning the lottery. I would save the money and apply to a different school.

there is no minimum gpa requirement required to apply to purdue as per Purdue's FAQ website:

Q20: What is the required grade point average (GPA) for admission into the professional program?
There is no specific GPA requirement because admission is based on several factors in addition to grade point. However, a GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) and higher is generally the minimum considered. The average GPA of students admitted in 2005 was about 3.60.

A average gpa is not the same as minimum gpa requirement. There are schools that REQUIRE their applicants to have a minimum gpa for the school to even look at the application. Thats totally different.

That's what I thought, but on PharmCAS it says that a 3.5 GPA for out-of-state is the minimum overall GPA considered.

Beats me. Maybe they still want to collect the application fee from people who have no chance of being accepted? Or they could be like USC where prefered actually means required. Or its a mistake on pharmcas (which wouldn't be the first or last).

and here is the answer from Purdue

"We received over 1,100 applications last year for 160 positions. The minimum
GPA requirement is a necessary tool to best administer an efficient
assessment process. However, we do have precedence of assessing applications
with GPAs less than 3.50 if the applicant is attending a peer institution
(four-year research intensive institution).
My advice is to not self-eliminate unless you are well below the desired
3.50 GPA (i.e. less than 3.30 and grades of C in the core science courses).
I appreciate your inquiry and interest in our program.
