Hi, I'm new to this forum, but I think it's a pretty helpful place to be.

I was reading the Texas medical school information that is easily found on the TMDSAS site, and I saw that they actually have a minimum required grade in pre-reqs. When I looked around at other medical school sites like WashU in St. Louis and Medical College of GA, among others, I didn't see such a clause.

" Must earn a grade of C or better. "

My question: Does this mean a straight C or better or does a C- also qualify as a C grade? I think it would be weird not to allow application of a student if a C- is the passing grade at his/her university. Obviously it's not a great grade, but if you have to have a C or better then you would have to re-take a course that you technically passed at the university level. Does anyone know about this or have applied with C- grade(s) and been accepted? Is this just Texas schools? If I re-take a course that I made a C- in will that then allow me to apply, or am I barred forever from Texas schools?

Thanks!

I took it literally....but if you're concerned you could always anonymously call schools to double check.

Yeah, I'll call tomorrow and see. I noticed that a thread like this was a little bit below mine and someone said that Texas takes all C_'s as C's (inc +/-)...I don't know how sure I feel, so I guess I'll call.

I should think a C is a C is a C. Otherwise there is little point in labeling that grade with a C if it does not signify passing.

But a better measure may be the grade point you receive. Some schools require that a 3.0 be earned in the class. If a C- is something like a 1.7, then they may not consider that passing.

Ok, so, per TMDSAS, all + and - are given whatever letter they are. So a C- is a C which is sufficient for application. Whether or not that class should be retaken anyway is another story...It would be a question of how many C's you have and trends, etc...

I know that some schools require "not less than a 2.0" in a prereq. So, that means that a C- is out. But I'm not sure if that's true across the board.
