This is my third try at admission. I came pretty close last year, unfortunately close doesn't count! 😳 Anyone else IS or OOS applying?

I'll be applying OOS. This is my second round applying but my first time for Minnesota.

Ditto on the last post. This is my second round, but first time applying to Minnesota OOS. Good luck everyone! 🙂

So I'm the only IS so far?

:luck:Good luck to all!:luck:

I would have been another IS applicant to the U of MN but I decided to wait another year, get more experience, and enjoy being out of school for a bit... oh, and apparently to have a baby and buy a house too. 😱 😀 So best of luck to all of you, and hopefully I'll be joining you in a couple of years! I'd love to hear how it goes (especially for Turnandburn since we're both IS), as I'm planning on only applying to MN next year.

I've been really back and forth on whether I should apply OOS. The tuition just seems ridiculous and the thought of spending $1000 a month for the next 30 years just on tuition seems really daunting. AND I'm running out of time to decide... :scared: I hate this time of year!!!

It's a tough decision, no doubt... in my case, since we now own a house (about an hour and a half north of the U of MN CVM) and I really don't want to sell it, and since my husband has a job here and we both have our parents here, I don't want to move out-state right now, especially since I like the U of MN a lot and figure my admission chances are really good there. I prefer the in-state tuition price tag to some of the other schools, too! I don't want to apply to other schools because if I got into them I don't think I'd want to leave the state. I'll make my final decision about that next year, though. Good luck with your choice! I think if I were unencumbered, I'd happily have applied some other places, but I'm happy with my decisions. Life's about compromises.

Yes, that's partly my dilemma too- we just bought a house this spring and it's not the most practical situation for me to be moving OOS! But seriously, the OOS tuition is probably the biggest thing holding me back- I mean, that's like taking on another mortgage! But I want to be a vet so bad <---> major dilemma! I do feel my best chances are here though, so I'm thinking MN will be my only application again this year. With last years application, I was waitlisted and came pretty close to getting in, so with a slightly better application this year hopefully it will get me in! I'm not looking forward to interviewing again though... :scared:

Im applying as an IS. Hope it works out.

Yeah, never got around to changing it. Worked in a dentist office this summer, hated it. Have grown up on a farm and worked with large animal veterinarians my whole life, and finally realized that is exactly what I want to do. Better late than never I guess.

I'm applying OOS!😎

8 schools for me. I don't see the disadvantage other then the PITA it is to apply w/ all the supps and the extra $$$. Each school has such a different philosophy; how am I supposed to know where I fit in if I don't try??

I'm applying OOS for the first time around.

I'm applying OOS, as well. This is my first time around (and hopefully my last!!

and hopefully my last!!

Amen to that! I've just been telling myself that I will be happy to get some interviews, but the thought creeped in about how amazing it would be to get accepted this year, and it's all I can think about since then. I know, I know, I'm preaching to the choir! 🙄

Me! OOS. I've never even been to Minnesota....haha.

anyone have any news from minnesota yet? i'm OOS, other than the confirmation of materials received, haven't heard anything yet.

Haven't heard anything yet...I'm OOS too. Do you know when notifications were sent last year? :luck:

I'm OOS as well. The update e-mail from about a month ago (12/8) said that people will be notified about their interview status by e-mail and regular mail in mid-January.

That's coming up pretty quickly!

Oh my gosh! I know! I can't wait to hear from them! I have been checking my email everyday...even though I got that email saying they would let us know in the middle of January 🙂 I am applying as an IS student. I wish they would just tell us now!

I'm OOS too...and if the first interviews are the 23rd I hope they let us know soon!

I think the earliest interviews are for in-staters who don't need to make travel arrangements... I remember thinking that they didn't give me much notice between my invitation for an interview and my interview date, but I had to travel from St Paul to... well, St. Paul.

Thanks StealthDog for the info! Now I will be checking my email even more!!

This is my first time applying and I'm IS. I'm *hoping* to get an interview and if I do I'm also hoping it doesn't conflict with traveling for other interviews since I'm taking a long weekend trip to San Fran for RVC at the end of January. I have a friend who is a first year right now at Minnesota so it's been fun listening to her stories! I know a lot of people don't get in their first time applying, but its hard not to get my hopes up...fingers are crossed!

I too am an IS for Minnesota, hoping that my second app is the lucky ticket!

I just got my interview letter from the UofM!!!! It was in a plain white letter and it was one page. It pretty much just told me to look for more interview information in later emails and that I got an interview!!! So be checking your mail!!!!!!! 😀

Congratulations bordercollies! Hopefully I'll see you on your interview weekend -- I'm a student at MN now, and will be helping out with tours/student panels.

Good luck to everyone else! :luck:

Just got my rejection letter from Minnesota, darn 🙁. Post marked Jan 9th and I'm OOS (east) for all those still waiting to hear some news...better news than mine, hopefully.
Good Luck to the rest of you!

Yeahhh I got my rejection letter in the mail today as well.

Oh no, their sending out both rejections and interview invites by mail all in the same time period? Gah, I'm going to be terrified when it arrives.

So nervous! I don't know whether they're sending it to my school address or my home address... and I'm not coming back to campus until this weekend. Ahh! I just wish I had telepathic vision and could see into my mailbox right now! lol

wildvet, I went through the same thing last application cycle. I feel your pain!😀

I got my interview invite today 😀

Rejected. OOS on the east coast, they sent it to my mailing address. But congratulations to everyone who got an interview!! I can't believe they had over 1,000 applicants this year.

Thanks!! I am sooo excited!! So there are tours planned throughout the day then?? I got an email today telling me about my interview times. Mine is on Feb 2nd!!! It is coming so fast!!! 🙂

Well, I'm a bit late on my news but I too got an interview letter from Minnesota!!!!! I am so very excited but so very, very nervous! Best wishes and good luck to everyone on their inverviews!!!!

YAY interview at minnesota OOS! I get all of my vet school stuff sent to my parents house, so I called home today just to check if anything came. My mom assumed since it was a thin envelope that it was a rejection, proved her wrong 😉

Best of luck to everyone! Please come back and tell us how it went. I'm interested since it's my top pick school. 😀

I just received an invite to interview at Univ. of Minn. This is my first invite from them. (This is my second application cycle and I got rejected from the 8 schools I applied to and was waitlisted at Western my first time around. This year I applied to 17 schools ($4000 total) and I hope to get more interview invites.)

Wow! This is a great feeling. But now I'm freaking out about the interview and how not to screw that up.

No concrete dates are set for the interview but they mentioned in the letter the following weekends: 2/13-14, 2/20-21, 2/27-28. They said they will send an email in the next few days regarding scheduling info.

In case anyone cares, I am from Southern California.

For those of you who got interview letters as well, I have a question about the subjective clause. Does this mean that from this point on they're pretty much disregarding grades and scores and the final decision will be made solely on subjective interview results and experiences, recommendations, etc.?

That is how I understood it when Larry (from the UofM) came to talk to us about the application process. He said that once you make the interview they will not consider your grades/GPA or your GRE scores. He said they will be considering your interview and then your PS, letters of recommendations, experiences, leardership ablitity, etc.

Bordercollies, do you think that is also how most other schools do it? That once you receive an interview invitation it is safe to say you "passed" in terms of grades and GRE scores, and from there on out it's more of a subjective decision based on those other qualities?

Just got an email from them for me to choose my top two choices for OOS interviews out of the 3 weekends that they have available.

I'm sorry Bordercollies, I definitely "lied" to you! For some reason, I was thinking you were out of state, hence why I made the comment about possibly seeing you for your tour. We do give tours during the out of state interviews (which are generally done on/near the weekend), but we (the students) do not generally give tours for in state applicants. That said, if you want a tour of the school, you can maybe try calling ahead of time and ask if that would be possible. 🙂 If that's not possible, there's a welcome program later for accepted students, and it might be possible to get one then.

I'm sorry for the confusion, but good luck at your interview!!!!! And congratulations to everyone else receiving their interview offers! 🙂

Here is an other rejection.. postmarked Feb 9, received yesterday at my current address.. I'm also an OOS from the east coast.. I'm trying to give an idea to others who are still waiting.. may be not getting anything is a good sign...🙂 congrats to those getting an interview!

If they say they can't do that (I really don't think they'll say that, though), feel free to PM me and we can meet up for an "unofficial" tour if you like. 🙂

Haha! That is completely fine Serendipity! I get confused easily 😀 I am going to give them a call and see what they say for an interview on the same day that I have my interview.

Question for ya, do you have any tips of helpful hints for the interview process that helped you?? Just trying to get as much help and prepare for this thing as much as possible!!
