Hi, in looking through my primary I realized a mistake in classification for one of my activities which is supposed to be employment not volunteer. Normally I wouldn't bother schools to correct this but I've got an interview coming up at a school where the secondary mentioned work during college and it's the activity I miscategorized on the primary. Would it be alright to contact the school about this mistake? Or do you think I should just leave it? I don't want to sound deceptive...

You won't seem deceptive if you just own up and say it was a mistake. Far worse mistakes have happened in medicine. (Today, even! Caused by one of my trainees, perhaps! Resulting in a valuable lesson that won't be soon forgotten!) I'd send a brief e-mail that looks something like this:

"In preparation for my upcoming interview, I reviewed my primary application and discovered that I inadvertently misclassified an extracurricular activity. Specifically, I listed my experience with Krazy Karl's Klown Kollege as voluntary; in fact, it was a paid position. My apologies for the error.

"Thank you for extending me the opportunity to interview for a seat in your Class of 2022! I wish you a Happy New Year and look forward to my visit."

That way, your interviewer won't waste time preparing questions for the wrong line of inquiry (although the likelihood of that happening here is very slim).

Thank you for the reassurance and template!
