All I can say is good luck. Unless they can stop "hiring from the community" and get rid of the unions, this venture is as doomed as the last attempt.

That's what I was wondering. I don't know a whole lot about the program other than what I've read. Not sure this is going to be the panacea they are hoping for.

Depends if they have a lot of out patient clinics running. You could keep a lot of residents busy with derm, ortho, OB/GYN clinic etc without using beds. Not sure if this is the deal but possible.

Back when I was there in 2007 we had about 140 inpatient beds, and 250 residents. It is not a 2:1 ratio, as only about 30 of those residents were internal medicine. We had derm residents, ortho, ENT, optho, and OMF residents who spent most of their time in the clinics. I remember being on my medicine rotation there and having 10-12 patients at a time.

yeah even with that i guess i'm not used to seeing 120 bed facilities treating that many ppl to necessitate 250 residents but that makes sense if they have that many outpatient facilities/clinics

yeah, the 2:1 ratio sounds like they are spinning the numbers. If I were going to a hospital where they said I'd have 2 docs looking after me, I'd think I was going to be really taken care of!

Yeah people the ratio is not too shocking. Heck I've seen many residency programs that has nearly 100 house officers but the hospital may only have 250 inpatient beds. Many of the specialties are primarily outpatient and if they have a inpatient service it's small ie 10-15 patients at any given time like ENT, OMF, plastics, optho, derm, family practice.
