This game is nuts. He hit that shot from the bench.

Found myself humming the Harlem Globetrotter theme song when the Kentucky-Cornell game tippped off and then cheered as Cornell led for the first 3 minutes (up by 8!) . The smile was wiped from my face quickly enough.

Looking forward to the Duke game tonight!

It's too bad Cornell decided to suck for most of the first half. If they'd held it together like they did for the first 7-8 minutes and all of the second half, that would've been an amazing game.

They play a slow, methodical game and Kentucky plays a fast game with lots of break-aways and easy lay-ups. It was like seeing some NBA players taking on some shorter guys who are just playing for love of the game (they don't even get sports scholarships).

Scholarship or not, the only way you get to such a high level is because you love the game. Winning the genetic lottery helps a lot too.

What I was trying to say was that Cornell players are out there for the love of the game, no scholarships, no NBA hopes. The Kentucky players have NBA contracts all but signed. College is just tryouts and prep for their careers in professional b-ball. It is a whole different level of play.

Right, I understand that. The Kentucky players would not have gotten this far if they didn't love the game either though. A few of the Cornell guys will probably play overseas professionally anyway. The NBA is one of many professional leagues around the world.

OK, future NBA players vs. guys (mostly white shorter) who will never play for the NBA. You could really see the difference out there although I was amazed that the score was as low as it was and as close as it was including Cornell's domination in the first 3 minutes.

If I was you I would leave race out of the discussion.

I think that schools would sacrifice depth by recruiting a few really smart, motivated guys whose job on the team would be to sit on the bench and boost the graduation rate while the usual players continue to play until their eligibility runs out.

I have known a few walk-on guys on Tennessee's mens team. A big part of their job is to bring up the collective team GPA.

Baylor is looking pretty tight right now.

the Tennessee Ohio State game is pretty good

ivy league schools do give scholarships to athletes using merit reasons. i went to a hs that produced a few athletes and a lot of them went to princeton/harvard and stopped playing after a year. because they aren't allowed to give sports scholarships, they can't actually take away their financial aid. this is a common ritual in my town to just play for a year (sit on the bench) and quit

Tennessee is doing much better than I expected they would, and I'm glad. I mean, I hate Tennessee, but I do enjoy watching good basketball.

yea tenn is a good bball team, i think they got screwed with their seeding though

is big 12 the best bball conference of the year?

Yeah they probably are, considering the Big East meltdown. If Kansas was still in it'd be a no brainer. You could make a case for the Big 10 though. They're playing pretty well so far.

Down to the wire. Ya gotta love M-Madness.

Not to hate, but Turner was trying to be a one man show there. Then he wouldn't even let his teammate help him up. Kind of a punk move if you ask me.

yea, it worked in the big 10 tourney but i think he had his mind made up

which is why johnny is going #1

passing on john wall is stupid no matter who gets the pick. 2 headed PG teams work and are more and more common now. or they could always trade him, kinda like Kobe was drafted by the hornets but traded to the lakers for Eddie Jones etc

MSU is about to take over this UNI game. I just have a feeling 🙂

We'll see who has the last laugh.

I was referring to the other game. I am actually rooting for Michigan (Since my Huskies got knocked out yesterday). CBS keeps switching over. Looks like it could be an interesting second half.

just curious, why aren't you going to MSU for med school? i mean CCOM is that piff for sure, just wondering though.

What does that mean? Piff for sure?

I loved my time at MSU, but I really wanted a change of scenery. Loved the rotations available at CCOM too. Hopefully it turns out to be the right one.

to quote urban dictionary, piff means superior to average. i was semi worried that the vernacular wouldn't transfer, but i figured if you were a hoop head you might be familiar.

thats cool though. CCOM is on my list.

As someone with no vested interest for either team I must say that the refs have been a bit cruel to Purdue.

as a duke fan we will take that. nolan smith to the rescue.

If by hoop head you mean pot head, then yes that vernacular would have transferred.

Final Four is set. Looks like it'll be a blast.
