Hi all,

Boarded in Anesthesia and Pain in 2022. Have been paying for MOCA but completely slipped my mind to doing these questions. As of this year I’m more mindful and doing the questions.

It’s saying my p value is 0 even though I’m getting almost all questions correct.

On the ABA directory it says I’m not participating in MOCA.

Am I screwed forever? Prob not i would hope… what can I do to rectify this?

Page 30 (the actual page) not the iPhone/android webpage is your answer and also page 32

It says the ABA takes into various factors in determining whether to issue you a renewal certificate if you fail your Moca

And also call the ABA

My certification cohort years 2004/2005 were the only ones to really get F’d by the ABA.

The old way was take the written exam as early as year 7 of your 10 year cycle

So those boarded in 2000, 2001,2002, 2003 could take their re certification exam as early as 2007,2008,2009, 2010. Why was this important? Because up until 2010, the ABA basically eliminated 50 questions you missed essentially ensuring a 99% passing rate!

It’s the dirtiest secret many people on these boards and the general public did not know. I think the ABA got some flack for that. I also think they did it so the grandfather people who were certified before 2000 could brag they could pass a recertification exam they weren’t required to take.

But the scary thing happened for the ABA. By 2014. The ABA freaked out when the recertification passing rates had tanked to 88%. Duh. When you actually score all the questions instead of eliminating questions for the everyone from 2007-2010. That’s what happens.

It’s pretty much all a scam

Just wanted to give people a history lesson why the ABA Moca really was created. The real reason

Just call the ABA, they’re easy to deal with

Just another (almost) meaningless rubber stamp that we have to pay for.

no issues, happened to someone i know the year before, and then last year they did their questions, and back to participating in moca.. no stressing necessary

The issue is the OP didn’t do it in 2022, 2023, 2024

I know life gets busy and some people don’t pay attention to this. Read page 32 of the handbook I linked.

But also call the ABA like the other poster said.

Good luck to the OP

I also started doing it recently, didn't know it was a thing
The questions are stupid and repeat incessantly. It's a complete waste of time and money.

The trick to the ABA moca questions are like tik tok algorithms.

Literally takes me less than 10 min to do them

Any questioni that is tough u always responsd unrelated to your practice.

The algorithm is to make the questions as simple as possible for you.

I also like to adjust my practice characteristics and drop the percentages on questions I don't like, eg OB.

I'm currently riding 95% cardiac and 5% OP.

Takes couple of years to adjust questions. All algorithms

This is why I troll and sometimes don’t troll things

I figured out this game years ago. The questions becomes ridiculous easy the dumber on paper you make the system think you are.

I still get 3-6 questions wrong per 30 questions but I spend very little time on it. They rarely ask me pain, peds, cardiac, ob or even neuro or trauma. I’m as simple a general doc as there can be in their algorithm. It’s almost like they think I do eyes and gi everyday when they ask questions.

Back to the OPs question, I think they calculate your percentile based on total number of correct questions vs all takers at the time that you are answering.

I've often skipped the first two or three quarters, then hit hard in December. Seems like no matter how many I get right, I hover around 5% until I reach a critical mass of questions answered. Then I shoot up to 80s or 90s
