Modeling on application?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
you need to post a photograph before we can answer this question

How could it possibly look bad to anyone? It is employment. Represent it at such. Although not medically related, it's important to include it so you can better account for your time.

I am going to be applying to schools to transfer to in the fall( for junior status of 2010), would it be looked at in a bad way if I included my work history of modeling?
Jobs I have done.
Macy's
Nike
Abercrombie and Fitch
Hollister Co.
Macy's
Ralph Lauren ( Rugby)
4 page spread in GQ earlier this year
Cosmo Magazine
Walked in multiple shows during fashion week.
and so on.

Impressive.

This is the internets. You must produce said pics or come to terms with the fact that this did not happen.

this is obviously a joke. no model has that much versatility

umm... I did everything listed. Feb issue of GQ with L. James on the cover.. What ever thats not the point im not trying to fabricate something, if you want me to further prove it PM me and I will.. other wise if you have nothing to say about the question asked dont post! thanks.

I would list it for sure, especially if you are a hot girl (sorry I can't tell).

You might just put a quick blurb about it, but don't make a big deal and don't draw too much attention to it. Just use it as one more element that makes you a well-rounded applicant and human being.

It'd be easy for me to sit here and say you shouldn't include any of that stuff in your app because it's not related to medicine in any way... but that would just be me hating. If I had done what you've done in the modeling world, I'd be pointing it out to random strangers all day long. 🙂

Holy crap, you must be making bank. Especially with GQ. I knew a girl that was getting paid $5k an hour for a Kohl's photo shoot.

Modeling is a part of who you are; it's another facet of your personality. And it's employment.

Yea I see what yall are saying.. Thanks for all the info. I just didnt know if it seemed rather toolish or not.

Btw im a guy and folks dont get rich shooting GQ... That one only paid $150. haha But yea with macys its easy to get WAY more than what we should get.. funny how things work. Thanks for the advice all!

Well the problem isn't that it has nothing to do with medicine, it is because people have this notion that "models" are stuck up, arrogant, etc...and the work (not that I would know) is not really the MOST challenging thing.

Just include it as a side if you want, but it's not like working as a waiter or being a car mechanic, in which you can turn it around and say that customer satisfaction/service was important......

lol, I bet if your interview noticed that you were a model, he/she(especially) will try to see if you look better than other applicants in suits.

There's no reason the adcom should dislike you because you're really really ridiculously good looking! /Blue steel

YES, include it in. You might not be the best doctor out there but damn that doesnt stop you from being the best looking. post some pics :meanie:

Were you the guy on "Make Me a Supermodel?" Cause I know one of them was a premed...and if so, that would be totally awesome 😍

sick resume, put it down. list them like you would on your modeling resume or portfolio or whatever they call those things.

List it as employment, non-military. I don't see it being treated any differently than any other employment in a non-clinical setting. In the description you might say that your work has included runway modeling, catalogs and advertisements, photos used in magazines, and video (or whatever).

As was mentioned, it does account for your time.

Definitely mention it. There are thousands of people trying to get into modeling who don't make it as far as you have. This is impressive. Also, modeling is uncharacteristic for premed students. I think it will make you stand out.

But yeah, I second the statement: pics or it didn't happen.

I had that in the application and when I went to interviews, no one asked me about it. I definitely recommend not putting your list of clients like you did, because I read the post and almost choked on my water laughing (sorry), and may have the same effect on other people. You should write more about how the experience has benefited you or made you grow as a person.

I hear what you are saying.. but the point of listing is because I feel this would be a rather dumb question had it NOT be a fair amount of rather substantial work. I mean lets face it, people say they model because of being in a picture at their sisters wedding, I was simply trying to create some contrast.. that is all.
By the way thanks for the advice folks, I think I got what I was looking for when I posted this thread.

Can you pm a some of your model pics? thanks!

IF you don't look like this..😀😀

don't list it...

Modeling is about networking and being good looking. He doesn't have to be a superstar... just gotta have contacts.

It's fine to put it on your AMCAS. It accounts for your time and raises a bit of interest.

She looks like a 10 year old boy from the waist down. No curves at all. I'll stick to my usual lesbian crush.

P.S. Are we so sure the OP is a woman?

Even then, if I were reviewing an app, I would find modeling a unique "EC." Everyone's gotta have their niche. Definitely list it! I may even go so far as to recommend linking to a website if you have a portfolio up (if you're doing GQ and retail, I'm betting you've got one).

Although, I did notice this thread is really old, so OP may even be accepted to med school already?

If there is anything that this thread can teach us, it's that a male model's life is a precious, precious commodity. Just because we have chiseled abs and stunning features, it doesn't mean that we too can't not be rejected by a freak admissions committee accident.

LOL!!! Great answer. To the OP, modeling is employment, and employment is only interesting to schools if it's relevant to your education.

Kohl's is where my ex made all her modeling money at. And she got a decent amount from being in the apple catalog. What sucks is you have to pay so much to make a decent portfolio.

OP is/was transferring schools and looking to put it on future med school applications.

This thread vaguely reminds me of the stripper EC thread a while back.

Stripping probably makes more money than modeling. It shows med-schools that you're smart enough to know where the ca$h is at.

I once worked as a model for a print ad in a sales circular and made enough money in two hours for a weekend get-away for two (meals, hotel, movie, leisurely driving). I know I'd never make that much stripping. (Men would have paid me to stop and put my clothes back on.)

Those of us on the adcom have had a variety of jobs in college. Your non-clinical employment will often differentiate your application from the five others I read that day and there are almost always transferrable skills or merely the opportunity to have a better understanding of the point of view of the lay pubic. (What I learned about pancreatitis from a co-worker who had come back from death's door with that disease did a lot to launch my interest in a topic which drove the early part of my career.)

Freudian slip?

Hey! Wow! I completely forgot that this thread was even here. I have transferred schools ( undergraduate), but will take everyone's' advice into consideration when med school apps come around!

Thanks everyone!
