Guys,

1/ Do you think changes in cancer staging from the new AJCC edition is Boards testable for this year? There were several of these Qs on this years RISE!

2/ How would you compare Boards Qs with Lefkovitch in terms of difficulty- about the same, harder or easier?

2/ Do you think having the hotel room for the entire duration of the test is in any way useful (for breaks etc)? - read something to that effect here. I was planning to check out of the Intercontinental before the start of my AP test (not taking CP) but can book it for an extra day.

Sorry for the paranoia and thanks for reading!

1- Don't go that far. The board is more reasonable than the RISE.

2- Same level of difficulty but the questions on the Board are shorter and more focused.

3- Doesn't matter. I even didn't stay at the interconntinental! and my hotel was 10-min walking distance from the exam center.
I didn't find the reading in the breaks very useful...but you can read some quick notes during the longest break (lunch break) such as gene rearrangements of the tumors, if necessary but I don't recommend it.

What is a good percentage to shoot for in Lefkowitch to correlate with passing AP boards? 70%? 50%? 90-100%?

Cannot predict. The book goes deep (very subspecialized) in some chapters and superficial in others. I found reading and UNDERSTANDING the explanations the most useful thing.

The new staging information will most likely not make it to the boards, yet. On the other hand if it does - wouldn't you want to know it? Besides, you are going to need to know it later anyway (even if you can look it up). I had a friend who took the boards a few years before me and suggested taking a day or two and reading through the staging manual prior to the exam. At the time all his classmates laughed at him for it, yet there were several questions on his exam pertaining to staging. I also had several staging questions.

I agree with the previous post about Leftkowitch questions being all over the place and that the explanations are the most useful. However, I felt like the questions in the book were more difficult (and as previously mentioned, more involved) than the questions on the boards. Most of the boards questions you will know the answer before you see the choices.

There were several people taking the boards who had checked out of the hotel before the exam and stored their luggage in the little front room outside the exam area. The hotel would also likely hold your luggage at the desk for you if you so desired.

72.3% correct or higher in the Lefkowitch should correlate with a passing score on the boards. ;-) (If only it were that easy...)
