Hi guys,
ugpa: 2.96
since the completion of my undergrad, I've retaken
bio II - 3.6
orgo 1 - 4.0
orgo 2 - 3.6

and additionally taken for the first time:
orgo lab - 3.8
biochem - 2.7
adv physio - 3.7
cell bio - 3.7
genetics - 3.0

leaving me at a postbac gpa of 3.49. I will retake chem II and add 1 more upper level bio but i don't think my gpa will change much from what it is.

With a 505 mcat, is this enough for me to apply broadly and land something or do I need to take more classes or do a masters or what. I have not included ECs because I am pretty confident that mine are good and my focus needs to be on the gpa/mcat aspect of things

Thanks in advance

+1 on doing more. Ideally your post-bacc GPA needs to be near 4.0 to distinguish your current self to your former self.

Your MCAT is good. As long as your gpa is over 3.2 you should be good for DO schools. Apply early and keep taking more upper division science classes and keep volunteering.

Ur fine but apply big and expect to go to a bum school in the middle of nowhere

Biochem grade sucks. I got a B- and got A/Bs on 3/4 exams but my first exam grade tanked me and I couldn't recover from it. But my result is my result so no excuses there. Thanks for your input! I think I will definitely be doing 2 more post bac classes.

Nope, more post-bac needed. That 2.7 in Biochem would kill you at my Adcom meetings. You're supposed to be aceing everything now, not getting C's!

You might want to consider looking at Andre Pinesett, MD videos on YouTube. He is ultra familiar with the current process of getting in, staying in, and everything else about medicine. You can also ask him questions, and he will answer them on social media.

Got it. Its actually a B- on my transcript if that helps anything but I get the point!!
We know what a 2.7 is. I was responding again to the person who told you were fine. I just dont want you wasting money and time is all.

I figured but Goro said something about Cs so I just wanted to clarify, that’s all. I understand & I appreciate it

I agree with Goro and Magus, and to a lesser extent, gensurg:

1) Your MCAT is -okay-. It is most definitely is not going to do you any favors with that GPA at a majority of schools.
2) You need to do more and you need to do better in your post-bacc. If you keep on the course you’re on, you may end up sinking yourself by proving you’re no different now than you were during your traditional undergrad. A 3.49 PB GPA is not a good sign.
3) When you apply, and I have trouble recommending you do that this coming cycle, cast a wide net and pick your battles. As an example, I think the likes of DMU and TouroCA would be donations in your current state, and maybe even when you’re ready to apply. Evaluate yourself fairly and target schools within your range.

If you were to apply today, I think there might be some interest from the low end of the DO spectrum - the likes of BCOM, etc. I think you can get a better cycle than that.
