Well, the subject line says it all. I just came back from my interview at Mount Sinai and it was awesome! The school, the city, the students, and everything else really make me want to go there. But there is just one thing that kind of made me say, "wow." And that was the fact that there were only 5 of us interviewing that day and the other four had already received a TON of interviews. All of them had interviewed at Columbia and Cornell and two had interviewed at Penn and Hopkins. Damn! They must have great stats! I totally felt like the bottom of the totem pole. Are there other people out there with "good" stats (3.70 GPA, 29Q MCAT) interviewing with people with GREAT stats. I don't know, it just made me think is all.

Im glad you like the place I work!

don't be intimidated by the people with tons of interviews and high stats. I had the EXACT same experience when I interviewed at Tufts last January; nearly all the interviewees I talked to there had multiple (or at least one) acceptances and had interviewed at places like Columbia and Penn. And they came from places like JHU, Penn, Cornell, and the UC schools while I went to good ol' UMCP. It definitely humbled me a little at the time, but my interviews went great and I am now a first year student at Tufts and doing fine. good luck to you; hope you end up at Mt. Sinai (or at whatever school turns out to be your first choice in the end)! :)
oh yeah, my stats were 3.62, 29P MCAT.

You are not alone :)

Hey guys,
I'm just curious -- what makes you interested in Mount Sinai? I know it's a very strong school academically, but I was wondering if there was anything else that made you want to go there...
:)

Im glad to see this thread. I interviewed on Halloween and spent a few days there with students and went to classes. Its such a laid back place in a great neighborhood with a progressive view on how to train competent doctors who also have full lives and outside interests. At my interview there were a mix of applicants. The main thing I noticed is that very few people have interviewed, only 6 people my day and when I was there they had only been interviewing for a few weeks. SO those of you who havent heard back yet regarding an interview dont stress.

Thanks, KMY! I'd be psyched to be your classmate!

Hi kmy,
Do you have any information on staying with a student? I couldn't find anything about that on their website, and I really would rather not stay by myself in an unknown city. If there was a number you called or webpage you used, I'd appreciate it so much if you passed it on... :)

I totally agree about Mount Sinai. I loved it when I was there and am anxiously awaiting the 15th. It would be a wonderful first acceptance I would treasure forever :) It would go right next to my waitlists from silly universities that don't know what they are missing...

Elle.... basically when I called to schedule my interview I mentioned I was interested in finding a student to stay with. They gave me all the info and set me up. I think it was the best way to go, the dorms are incredibly close to the hospital and practically luxury apartments compared to the living conditions at other NYC med schools (ie Columbia - yick) .....

Just wondering if anyone's heard back from MSSM. Curious to know when they're sending out acceptances. And if you don't get acceptances after your interview, do they tell you whether you're rejected or waitlisted right off? Final question, how do they inform you of their decision? snail mail, email, phone call? Gosh - the wait is killing me!

I was born in, been admitted to, had appointments in and have spent emergency room visits in mount sinai. I don't know much about the academics, but as far as the hospital is concerned, I think its a great place.

OK, OK, I'm convinced. Now how do I get them to interview me? I know my app's been complete since whenever they got my August MCAT scores. They've cashed my check. I've called them to say I'm interviewing at Rochester and would like to coordinate "if they're thinkging of giving me an interview," and before that I called to say I was interviewing at Columbia and Albany and would like to coordinate "if......" I'm glad to hear they're a little slow getting going, but ...... <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

I dunno, my app was complete mid September I think. And I got my invite early November. I don't think it'll hurt to call them up and tell them you'll be in the area. Good luck to you!

My father died of Leukemia there. Yet I'm still applying.
