Hey everyone, just had a quick question.
I recently took Kaplan FL1(my first full length, since I started studying) and only managed a 25, I had begun studying all the way back in mid-May so seeing a 3 point improvement from my diagnostic after about 1.5 months of studying was a little bit disheartening.

So I spent three days going through each and every problem on the exam, trying to redo the ones I got wrong but taking my time with them. It turned out that most of my wrong answers (more than half) were not too difficult and I was able to understand and do them the second time looking at it. Running out of time and not being able to read the passages thoroughly enough was a big reason, also I am not finished with content review as of yet so there are some weak areas there. However the majority of the problems I got wrong, I was able to do on my own, or I was able to understand/make sense out of them once I saw the solution.

I know the Kaplan FL tests aren't anything like the AAMC but if I scored his low, should I consider trying moving my test date back? It's scheduled for August 18th. I plan to take another full length next week and start incorporating AAMC tests at the end of July (once Kaplan classes finish). Also hoping to finish content review by end of July as well. So I'll have a little over two weeks after the Kaplan course to just do AAMC tests and focus on weak content areas.

Would 6 weeks be enough to possibly get my score up to the mid-30's? I figure I could try and move it back a week, but I was really hoping to have those two weeks after to try and relax before school starts back up.

Thanks for any insights, this sub-forum has been both helpful and inspiring, as I know I'm not the only one struggling with this beast. :luck:

There is no need to push back your date, 6 weeks is plenty of time. A week won't make a tremendous amount of difference. There comes a point when you have either developed the MCAT intuition or not. Be really thorough in your reviewing when you finish a FL, and go back to the drawing board and do a couple days of content review after each FL. Take as many practice tests as you can in the next 6 weeks, and you should be fine.

Kaplan FLs are really hard to make it seem like you need their classes. I got a 23 on my first Kaplan FL, and after a month of studying I was making 34s on the AAMCs. 6 weeks is plenty of time.

Thanks for the advice zeppelin125, I'll try to do the best I can with the FL tests (if I keep my current approach to reviewing FLs, I'll try to dedicate 2-3 days for post test review), knowing I still have real shot at this should help me stay motivated.

Like the username BTW. 👍

Wow...what an improvement! That's amazing. This seriously gives me some hope in getting my own score up. It'll be much easier said than done, but knowing that it's possible, I'll keep the current test date and keep hitting the study materials.

Much appreciated guys, thank you. 🙂
