So I'll be graduating soon with my PharmD, and though I was previously considering MHA, MPA, and MPH programs, I'm now only considering MPA and MPH programs - mainly with concentrations in health policy (2 MPH in global health).

The programs I'm looking at seem to have a great deal of overlap, and I wanted to know if I could get more feedback on how these differ?

I feel like because MPH programs are so much about health and but MPA programs have the added administration, I'd be able to better transition into a "non-health" career with a MPA, the degree I'm leaning towards.

Feedback? Thoughts?

Why did you pick MPA over MHA?
My impression of MHA is that it'd be great if I wanted to go into hospital administration and that its pretty much narrowing for a managerial-type position as opposed to a more general health policy focus.

Either degree should be fine. If you go into the MPA program, you may want to take additional classes like health policy, health economics, etc. I think the MPH program would provide you more exposure to the healthcare field, such as insurance, the affordable care act and emerging trends, etc. It depends on what you want to do.

Given your background I would definitely recommend the MPA. It will open up more opportunities and you will acquire a different set of skills. I recommend going to a university with strong MPA and MPH programs where cross registering and taking classes at both schools is relatively easy . Make sure the curriculum is flexible enough to allow enough electives.

Do you have any ideas what you might want to do in the future? I might be able to provide better feedback.
