Many program websites have general reports of the average scores/data for admitted applicants.
An example can be found on Columbia's website FAQ: "What is the student profile?" http://publichealth.columbia.edu/faqview/11,12
Although it's not from the management-related concentrations specifically, I think these reports have been quite helpful in my own selection for how I match up with other successful applicants in this process, and hope that these stats will be helpful to you too!

When did you hear from GWU? I applied there for Epi as well and was in the 10/17 mailing date. They told me 6 to 8 weeks when they confirmed my application and this week is officially in that time frame. Nervous!
Since the 8th week falls around Thanksgiving break, you may end up hearing a bit later. I was told they were making a decision on my app last Thursday but wouldn't hear back for 2 weeks because of the holiday. So don't worry quite yet!

The best thing to do is talk to individual schools. Many schools do accept mcat scores, but since not many students use them, they don't exactly know how to treat them, which may or may not work in your favor. I was instructed to take the GRE, partially because some schools use GRE scores to give out merit scholarships.
Oops, I think I forgot to reply to this! Yes (duh), although I think I'm leaning a bit towards the MHA degree. You want to go into policy, correct?
Yeah, if I have to choose between management and policy, I'd say I lean more towards policy. But I like both and hope to get an education that will allow me to study the two.

Hi everyone! I have a question about SOPHAS and was hoping someone would be able to help.
Can the "Additional Questions" section of the SOPHAS application be modified for each distinct school designation? UCBerkeley requires a personal history statement as well as statement of purpose and they require the former to be submitted under this section. I just want to make sure this won't be submitted to all my schools if I do I add this to the "Additional questions" section.

Yes only Berkeley will get your personal statement. For each school, you will have different additional questions and make sure to attach SOP .. All the best 🙂

I'm applying to mph, ms, and phd programs in epidemiology. I'm freaking out because I'm taking the GRE's pretty late, and I have no research experience. I have been in and out of school over the past few years. I've always done well but really didn't know what direction I wanted to go in. As a result, I really didn't get involved in any type of research. Any suggestions for other programs I didn't mention yet?

So, I guess the moral of that story for future applicants is that if BU is your first choice school or you are really interested in going there, make sure to convey that in your personal essays and maybe even try to interact with faculty before you apply.

You'll get accepted to more than one of the schools you are applying to. I went to CSULB as well and I was a health science major (so i'm a neighbor to health administration!). My gpa wasn't that best and my GRE sucked, but my letters of recommendation and job experience was stellar. Now, I am at San Diego State University MPH program with a focus in Epidemiology and is working for the California Department of Public Health as a Epidemiologist trainee. And I have to say, if you get accepted to SDSU, I have no regrets choosing this program over the others. The professors here are by far the best professors I have ever had.

Was it easy or difficult for you to get that Epidemiologist trainee position? I also applied to SDSU's epi program and is wondering how the epi opportunities look like out there... I heard that it's a plus for people who speak Spanish in SD but would you say so as well? I don't speak Spanish and definitely don't want it to limit my chances of getting an epi position... My interest is in tobacco-related topics...

Yes, it is always difficult to get into any local health departments, let alone a state health department. I am just in my first semester in the program, so I am probably not the best person to ask about the job opportunities, but I do know, several classmates were already in the field, or recently got a job placement in research facilities. I am surprised I got this position, since they told me during my interview they have never hired a first year before and all of their trainees are 2nd years. I probably got this because of my experience prior to this interview. and yes, a lot of places like Spanish speakers, but majority of those jobs are in health promotion.

I don't know how many people SDSU takes in for epi, that is probably something you should email the department about. I just know the epi department is the smallest division. SDSU sends out emails to students about job and internship opportunities, so that is one good thing about the program. I also had a lot of connections, so when my supervisor called my references, they actually already knew each other (and I didn't know they knew each other).

Hello friends. Please help me. GRE score is really important for top schools?? I got 163 Quant but did yukk in Verbal 148 only .. 😢
I am M.Sc. Medicinal Chemistry + Pharma MBA ( GPA undergrad- 3.34 & grad -3.09)
3.5 years pharma market and regulatory experience + 1.5 yrs public health exp. 3-4 years volunteer experince and 3 strong LOR.
Do I have any chance to get into top schools like Harvard,Tulane, Emory, Berkeley etc..? Or should apply next year 🙁
I am really upset with my verbal score.
Please help me so I can take decision whether to apply or not...

Experience/Research: Tutored high school students, spent a summer volunteering at an orphanage in the Dominican Republic, participated in migrant farm worker clinics (administering medical care to migrant farm workers without documentation), volunteered in the Pediatric unit at a hospital, Habitat for Humanity
Applied: Boston University (HPM), Emory (Accelerated track HPM), Yale (Healthcare Management)
Accepted: Boston for Spring 2014 (starts so soon!!) with a $15,000 merit scholarship

Keep asking Boston for an extension on my admission decision (was originally supposed to tell them Nov 27th), but Yale is my top choice and they said they are doing their best to expedite the review of my application given my deadline!
