guys, Guys, GUYS! Just got my accepted to Yale School of Public Health - the big one I've been waiting for. Can't begin to described how stoked I am. Heres my final breakdown:

Undergrad School: University of Oregon
Undergrad GPA: 3.55
Major/Minor: Majors in Human Physiology & Psychology, Minors in Chemistry & Biology

I'm also an undergraduate at SDSU! I'm actually a statistics major. Congrats on BU, I've been accepted there too! However, I'm still waiting to hear from a few more schools including SDSU as well.

Just wondering, how were you able to get a research assistant position? I've been trying to find jobs that are relevant to public health but it's been difficult since I'm not a public health major and don't know many people in public health. Thanks 🙂

Well, I'm sure you know we have the Research Foundation at SDSU, under that there are different centers and institutes of research, of which there are actually a good amount dedicated to public health. IBACH (Institute for Behavioral and Community Health) is great if youre going into Health Promotion/Behavioral Sciences I started off as an intern in a Training program but worked my way up to RA. Most of the investigators at IBACH are affiliated with the graduate school of public health and are very supportive of your goals. I hope that helped a little. No, there are some MPH programs on there..namely the ones that don't offer MHAs (like UCLA)

Has anyone heard back from Colorado Global Health/Health Disparities? Heard back this morning by email that my application was not considered "competitive enough as hoped". I'm just wondering if anyone else had heard back from this program since I have been accepted to other programs that I would consider much more competitive than Colorado so I'm a little confused 🙁

No, I actually just declined my offer from JHU. After speaking with some current students, I decided it was not the program for me and will be doing the 2 year MPH at Berkeley instead. I'm happy to go into more detail if you want, PM me.

However, I'm going to the visit day on March 28 before I make any kind of decisions. As for the one vs two year program, I think it just depends on how much hands-on research you want to accomplish during your studies. With two-year program, you get a lot more time and opportunities to do research/projects. JHSPH definitely have the name and global connections than many other schools though so I'll be sad when I cannot afford to go there...

Accepted to Columbia MS Biostatistics (Theory and Methods)! First acceptance of the year and this is actually my top choice. Super excited right now.
Still waiting to hear back from Yale and UCB. I guess the wait will be ending soon.

That's awesome! My deciding factors range...one is that I already live in Boston and my boyfriend goes to BU's medical school so it's really convenient in that sense (the BUSPH and BUSM are on the same campus). Boston as a city is AWESOME and I would be sad to leave. I also got a merit award from BU and while it's not a ton, it will help make a difference. Also, Boston's rankings have been climbing over the past years and so I feel really good about that. If you're not from Boston and have questions about the area I'd be happy to help out!

I can't thank all of you enough for sharing such great information which is significant to our decision for grad school.
This may sound really dumb...but I have no idea how to go about any student loan and pretty soon will face a very challenging situation in decision making.... My undergrad was funded by parents...my dad is a sole bread earner in our family....I will not qualify for any need base financial....I am 21, earn a little from few odd jobs ....don't have my own funds for grad school...would hate to take anymore more help from my parents and wondering if anyone can give me some pointers how to get a low interest student loan? Should I approach the school?

Got accepted in MPH/Epi/Bio in Emory, Yale, Columbia, UPENN, UCLA, UCI, Dartmouth and now waiting for UCB... which is my top choice as tuition will be lot less...but I haven't heard back from them yet.....My final goal is MD and for all the reasons most of you have pointed out it may make more sense to accept a school with highest ranking...which is super expensive except UCB.....Looking forward to your input....

Which program are you leaning toward? I got into Emory, yale, UCLA and CAL, but still uncertain... Do you know anyone from the Yale program

It's not an official notice -- I found out by asking someone in the MPH office. I think they send out official notices soon though!

Columbia ppl: have you received any financial aid info after handing in the FAFSA? I see that the 'institutional and supplemental' app needs to be completed to be considered for need-based, but we don't have student IDs yet (did u contact admissions to get one? --seems like a weird system)

Emory ppl: anything on aid yet?

How are we supposed to be deciding by April without this info!?
