MPH Fall 2015: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
has anyone heard from or had any correspondence with USC (University of Southern California) in regards to admission decisions. I emailed them two weeks ago letting them know I had to make a decision regarding my other programs by April 15th and I received a reply stating I would be put on the list of early decisions and would here by April 14th - not super helpful.
I was hoping someone else may have heard something a bit more promising.

Did anyone receive an invitation to the UIC admitted students day that indicated an official acceptance would be following? If so, how long did it take to get the official acceptance? Thanks!

I don't know if this is a good thing or bad thing, but it definitely makes my decision much harder

Just accepted to Georgia State University's biostat MPH with Graduate research Assistantship for 2 years and a monthly stipend. I knew that I would be accepted, just didn't think they'd give me money. To me honest, I don't even know much about the program and I applied cause it was in Atlanta. It doesn't seem to be ranked according to USN.

God damn it. I was pretty set on going to Emory's MPH/MSPH Biostat program. (no money)

Ugh. what to do... Any input you guys?
Congrats on Georgia State! That sounds like an awesome offer! I'm sorry you didn't get any money from Emory. Does that mean they sent you your financial aid info?

Congrats to everyone on your acceptances and I hope you're all hanging in there. I'm still going crazy here trying to choose my school. I can't decide, still. Pro con lists aren't helping. I might have to flip a coin at this point...

Congrats to everyone on your admissions and scholarship offers! That's amazing. This thread provides great information for future applicants, especially regarding which schools are serious about offering funding to students. Wish I had all this info last fall!

On another note, is anyone still waiting to hear back from CUNY? And has anyone had luck speaking with someone from there? CUNY's the last one I'm waiting on, but I haven't been able to get ahold of anyone to find out when I can expect a decision. I'm not even convinced that they received and reviewed my application, and the complete lack of responsiveness is frustrating... Anyone had luck with them?

No, they havn't. I don't believe Financial info come out until the 20th. That was just looking at Merit awards. I wonder how Emory decides to divey up REAL awards etc?

I am waiting to hear back from CUNY as well. I spoke to someone last week via CUNY's virtual info session and was told they are working to send out decisions by April 15th.

I hear that. I'm trying to cool it until I receive my financial aid info, then after the visits to Emory and WashU. It seems like schools have been pretty good about weeding themselves out, so maybe after your financial aid is in and you've visited you'll have a better handle on what's going to work best for you. Good luck!

Has anyone received their financial aid package from Berkeley yet?

Has anyone received their financial aid package from Berkeley yet?
Hi! I went to Berkeley's Admitted Student's Day on Monday. They said that you will only receive your financial aid package after your submit your intent to enroll/pay your deposit at Berkeley. However, I also felt that they make more of an effort than any of the other schools I have visited to help you to finance your education with graduate student instructor and researcher positions that have a tuition remission and stipend, even at the masters level. I know it's still frustrating not to know how much they will be able to offer in the form of aid for sure :-(.

Just got back from Berkeley's admitted students day as well. Things that kinda concerned me... the majority of people I talked to are from California. Even though Berkeley is in-state, most public grad programs that I've looked at, including UNC, have a good mix of in-state and out-of-state students. Most people do tend to stay in CA after graduation and I'm not sure if it's because they were originally from California or the opportunities are endless in the Bay Area or something else. I don't think it'll be a huge issue, but it was a little overwhelming. Second, Berkeley doesn't have a "house" for public health. Classes are scattered throughout campus and offices are in this kinda-sad looking building. However, there is a brand new public health school building being built, but won't be open until 2017. Third, the MCH curriculum seems very strict and rigorous. Lots of required stats and seeing that Berkeley is one of the top programs for epi, this may be a good thing for a future career in research. However, I am interested in doing the global health certificate and taking a language. Not sure if electives will allow for both. 🙁

Overall, really liked the program and the faculty/students I talked to. Everything was really well organized. Students seemed put-together and not stressed out even though some were in the process of looking for summer internships/interviewing and some were finishing up theses. Also, they give a lot of support in finding a summer internship/practicum, which isn't the same for other schools I've looked at. I think GW gives you a list of potential places and after that, you're basically on your own. But, Berkeley does have a whole center that helps with the process and a person specific to each department. I definitely think I'll use and need the support when it comes time to do this, especially if I'm busy with classes and maybe part-time work.

Going to UNC's visit day this Friday and then, Emory next weekend. By the end of all of this, I'll just have stacks of folders, flyers, and brochures to sift through. Having options is great, but for someone as indecisive as me, I'm already overwhelmed. 😕😕

It is so hard to contact faculty at schools, contact current students, research schools, research apartments, and visit schools when I'm trying to FINISH MY UNDERGRAD DEGREE. UGHH I am so overwhelmed. Now I understand why gap years are such a great idea.....:arghh:

urgent help plzz......

Yale Health policy with global health concentration versus NYU global health Leadership versus Emory health policy and management

care to add on to the pros and cons anyone ?

Has anyone been accepted to UNC's MPH-RD program? If so, whats the likelihood you are going to UNC? I'm currently on the wait list for this program. Is anyone else? Trying to see what the likelihood of getting off the wait list is…

Glad I'm not the only one, and thanks for this!! Hopefully it's sooner rather than later.
You're welcome! When did you submit your application? I submitted my application to SOPHAS 1/31 and it was verified 2/26.

Anyone going to Michigan for Epi? If so, what made you choose to go there? Did anyone go to the admitted students day last week? Or anyone on here an alum? I need all the info I can get before making my decision. Please help!

I'm an undergrad alumni from Michigan... Not sure if I can help, but if I can let me know

Finally, I just confirmed my enrollment with Johns Hopkins MSPH (international health dept)!! So farewell Emory, GW, Columbia and Michigan~~I'm so glad it's done!! How are people turning down offers? I don't think any of the schools that I have been accepted to has a direct link for that. Good luck to everyone who is still deciding🙂:highfive:

I also just decided :soexcited: I am going with UC Berkeley Infectious Disease and Vaccinology!! I loved all of the other schools that I have been accepted to but there's something about a full ride plus getting paid to go to school at one of my top choices that just kind of sealed the deal haha I declined my other offers so those especially waiting on Columbia for Epidemiology hopefully you can hear back soon! And I hope my scholarship can go to someone who truly wants to attend. I just want to thank all of you for your support through this journey, and good luck on the rest of your endeavors, see some of you in the field one day!! :woot:

I think you can decline Emory's offer via OPUS

Also I'm leaning more towards JHU's MSPH in the International Health Dept than Emory right now so we may be future classmates 🙂

Hey again everyone!! What does unofficial letter mean in the portal of JHU?? I have been emailing and calling the department from past two days and no one is responding 🙁 🙁

Which division in International Health are you guys going to? Any of you attending admitted students day on 10th?

You're accepted. The official letter comes in the mail sometime after. If I remember correctly this is what happened to me. I got the decision link on the portal and then my official letter from the department of epidemiology came in the mail. When did you hear back?

Thank you so much! Do you remember how long it took for official letter to reach you? I got notified in the portal on 16th..

It came in approximately one week later but I'm not 100% sure. It was dated February 26 if I remember correctly and I didn't get it until the following week (first week of March).

Any information/advice on NYU as a school and the global health leadership concentration?? Not many people on this forum or anywhere for that matter applied to it , starting to freak me out now . Moreover the information on their website is no breather 🙁 . All the program gloats of the multi disciplinary course with networking to get in the job market !!

Also Yale waiters, i spoke to the admission officer on Monday , she said the last lot of decisions are to be sent out positively by next week.

And UCLA wait is just killing me now , they keep saying next week , how many weeks will i survive this uncertainty. :bang:

Got accepted for SBI but if we're allowed to switch I might try to switch to Health Systems. I'm going to admitted students day on 27th!

Hey!!!!! I'm in Health System may be we will classmates (if I decide to go there) I did not get any scholarship not have external funding. Not sure if I will even get such hugeeeeeeee loan I might have to turn my back to one of the good schools because of money
I will be going on 10th ! 🙂 🙂

Is anybody still waiting on Columbia Epi? At this point, they are the only school that I have not heard from.

What made your choice? I got into Tulane as well for Epidemiology but have received other offers and am still waiting on a few
I decided on Tulane because it fits what I want to study and my interests. I liked the school overall as a whole. I love that it has a global focus and that it is apart of the peace corps masters international program. I plan on studying mch as well as epi and Tulane allows me to do that. And plus it is in an amazing city. I really wanted to stay in the south because I do not do cold weather well. I'm from Atlanta, but I've been there forever so I wanted to leave Georgia.
