Got a nice rejection e-mail from Emory's EPI department today. I wasn't expecting an e-mail from them. At least I have a final decision! In other news, I have my interview with Ohio State this Friday! Anyone have interview tips?

Waiting to hear back from JHU is killing me. Got an email back in mid-November saying that my app was forwarded to my department for review and that I should hear back in 8-10 weeks. This is week 11... COME ON! Anyone else hear anything from them yet?

I'm in the same boat as you, my app was forwarded to the department on Nov 14. However, that was a reach school for me so I am pretty sure that I didn't get in. However, I'd still like them to just tell me that rejected me already, its super annoying. but if its the school you really want to go then dont panic !! no news is good news - for now. lol

I don't have a lot of experience with the public health field like some of you all but I think I stand a good chance with my AmeriCorps year, related work experience and current involvement with the community. I want to become a Certified Health Education Specialist and later a behavioral scientist that's why you see the variation with the tracks. I'm slightly nervous about my GRE scores but I think everyone usually is. All of my applications are in the reviewing process so I should hear back any time soon. UNC and Emory are tied for first. When I visited UNC, all the current students seemed like they were great friends and really close, which is great to see. I'm more interested in research, and UNC's public health is known for research, so I know there will be tons of opportunities and support from faculty. Plus, I get in-state tuition and I would be able to continue some of my research if I stayed in NC.

I've always loved Atlanta. It's one of those cities that I would love to move to and live in for a little bit. It's still in the South, so it'll never get too cold, and it's very diverse with tons of food options. I also have a few friends at Emory, Georgia Tech, and who are working in Atlanta.

Because of my interests in research, I was interested in epi, but didn't think I would be able to get in with my science GPA. At Emory, I would be able to consider transferring into the epi department, but at UNC, you can only get an MPH in epi if you already have a professional degree. Talking to students at UNC though, it looks like the MCH MPH is so malleable and flexible, that I can really make it to fit my needs by just taking more stats and research methods courses.

Nov. 14th was my forward date too! I mean JHU is probably a stretch for me too but I can dream right! No news is good news.... until it drives you to the brink lol

Does anyone have an idea of the turn-around on admissions decisions? I emailed Tulane on January 22; still no response. I do realize decisions can take several weeks, but the waiting is killing me!

It was about 4 weeks from when I got a confirmation e-mail from the department. Hang in there! It also depends on the department you applied to. It seems like EPI is much faster. I applied to the MSPH Tropical Medicine/Parasitology concentration and it took a bit longer to hear back from them.

It was about 4 weeks from when I got a confirmation e-mail from the department. Hang in there! It also depends on the department you applied to. It seems like EPI is much faster. I applied to the MSPH Tropical Medicine/Parasitology concentration and it took a bit longer to hear back from them.

Thank you, I applied to the Department of Global Health Systems and Development. In the meantime I have been joining webinars and reading up on research done at Tulane as a means to stay sane through this waiting period. I don't envy those who apply to schools with much longer wait-periods! Tulane's rolling admissions is great in this respect.

You guys... I was accepted to Emory!! I just got an e-mail saying that I was accepted into the MPH program for Environmental Health and it also explained how competitive the MSPH program was this year. My OPUS was already updated with the rejection letter and everything and then I got this e-mail congratulating me on my acceptance. I was so confused.

For anyone who applied to UIllinois at Chicago - they called me today to let me know they're recommending me for admission. He said that they've been experiencing technical difficulties but hope to send out a round of official decisions by the end of next week!

What department/degree program did you apply to? The epidemiology department doesn't release decisions until about the end of February and early March. I had to wait about 18 weeks so I know what it feels like (it sucked). It was also a reach for me too given my grades, but you never know with these top schools and what they are looking for. I was forwarded for review on October 10 of last year.

Can I ask what school is everyone's top 1 or 2 preferences? From what I've seen most people are applying to multiple schools so I was curious 🙂 You all are making me nervous over here seeing how early you turned your apps in! I finished my Peace Corps service right before the deadline so for me it was a rush to get everything done and trying to coordinate everything from another continent was crazy!

I know it's a long shot, but Berkeley is my top choice, hands down. Colorado (Denver) is way up there too. Colorado has a better cost of living and is a nice school. Berkeley has a great faculty with lots of resources. I love all the other schools I applied to also, though and it will probably come down to 1) how I've already rated each 2) Money 3) Convenience 4) Weather!! Having night classes so I can have a job or being in a good location will play into my decision a lot because all of the programs I applied to are out of state and super far away from little ol' Louisiana.

But let's get real, I just want them to pick me. I may not even have a choice and to chilly Boston I will go with glee

Yeah I didnt apply via SOPHAS, i applied directly to Bloomberg.. I still highly doubt I got in tho lol. And i applied to their MHA program. But I have seen that they can take a while to send out decisions.. thanks ! are u there now?

I'm getting anxious, too. I told myself I wouldn't check OPUS at all today because I feel like checking it multiple times a day has jinxed my chances of getting in. I submitted my applications on 11/22, got the "application received" email with OPUS login info on 12/14 and then nothing else. I had to email/call several times until they told me they just received my application in the Epi dept on 1/22. So another 6-8 weeks to actually hear a decision?

Well from previous threads it seems like Emory will be giving us decisions either this week or next week or next week...(they were mostly sent out end of Jan and by mid feb it stopped last year) So we're all almost there!

No. They posted their decision on OPUS on 1/8 for me. On the 27th they sent me an e-mail congratulating me and indicated I would be receiving the packet and a gift via FedEx. I haven't received it yet.

I got my e-mail on 12/16 and was accepted 1/8. However, I think 12/16 may have been the first day they sent those e-mails since I applied early. That's speculation though.

I applied to the joint program for Environmental Health & Epidemiology MSPH. My next choices were GLEPI and EPI (both MSPH). I was rejected from all three of my choices. Since I was rejected from the EH/EPI joint program, they considered my application for the EH MPH. My application was forwarded to my first choice department on 12/16, I was rejected on 1/23 (EH/EPI MSPH) and 1/27 (GLEPI & EPI MSPH), then accepted on 1/28 (EH MPH).

It's more research intensive and focuses heavily on analytical methods and applications, it's also a much more competitive program. If you have the chance to switch, I would do it! I would also consider your career goals after you graduate.

Basically, the MSPH requires 7 additional credit hours and requires more research. With the MPH you can do research, but it's not required. The MSPH is a research degree, so it's more of a terminal degree if you want to do research, where the MPH is more of a professional degree and if you want to do research you would go on to a research degree (PhD). It's really your preference, they are very similar.

I applied for Biostat MPH and was accepted (I did not apply for the MSPH), and I kind of regret not doing so now. :/ I was given the impression from many people that they weren't very different. I'm hoping I can contact some alums and get some insight from them cause I think it's my top choice right now.

In at NYU for Community and International Health with a scholarship! There's a professor there with my exact research interests, too. The scholarship makes it my most affordable option at this point, minus the cost of living in NYC, of course...

I spent a while on Google this morning trying to get a better sense of when I might hear back from UC Berkeley. I thought I'd be waiting until February or March, but miraculously a Berkeley acceptance popped up in my inbox just a few minutes ago! Had to create an account to let other Berkeley hopefuls know that the wait may not be quite as bad as anticipated (at least for MCH).

I just got the same email and I think some others on here did, too, maybe a couple of weeks ago...don't worry! It seems pretty relaxed and it's definitely a good sign 😀
