Speaking of financial aid, has anyone gotten financial aid info from Emory yet?
I believe it's going to be released around the 20th

Has anyone accepted to Hopkins MPH heard anything about scholarships? I know the Sommer scholars are supposed to be released around this time...
I'd give yourself a solid month of looking. It can be a quick or slow turn around. Depends on how many other applicants you are going against. Be prepared to put down a deposit asap to secure a place. This is standard across all neighborhoods in Seattle. The city is growing very quickly so lots of competition. 🙂I'm going to look into Eastlake. How far in advance should I be looking for a place to live in Seattle???
Okay! Thanks! I'm glad class starts later because I will be out of the country through the beginning of August.I'd give yourself a solid month of looking. It can be a quick or slow turn around. Awesome, thanks!I believe it's going to be released around the 20th
The whole money aspect of Grad school is killing me. 🙁
Me too! Sometimes I wonder if it will be worth it.
Anyone heard from Columbia today ??
I definitely agree that it's worth it to take out loans for grad school if that's your only option. When it comes down to comparing schools that will provide you roughly equal opportunity, I do tend to lean towards the one that would give me less debt. It's really all a balancing act. You have to balance career and education opportunities with things such as cost, location, practicum opportunities, etc. As if this whole process wasn't stressful enough! In terms of grad school loans... Unless you can find your dream career with your undergrad degree it's totally worth it!
Yes debt isn't fun I'm swimming in it from Undergrad and Grad school... but I can't imagine myself working the jobs I can get with my MS for the next 40 years of my life...
For those wondering ***my first MS was a stepping-stone for a professional program that I was accepted into but then decided it wasn't what I wanted. But I still don't regret the time and money I spent on an MS. It has opened up so many doors for me, and I would do it all over again.
I haven't =/

Anyone else having a hard time deciding between JHU's 11-month program and other 2-year programs?
Applied: Boston University MPH-GH, George Washington University MPH-GH, Columbia University MPH-PFH, GH Cert., Johns Hopkins University (11-month MPH), Harvard SM2 GH,MCH
Accepted: Boston University (1/30) , George Washington University (1/27), Columbia University (2/6), Johns Hopkins University (11-month MPH; 2/9)[/QUOTE
Congrats on your acceptances!! How long did it take you to hear back from Columbia? I, and a few others, are still waiting to hear from them.
I agree completely! The school and ranking will matter depending on your personal and career goals. It's all about knowing not only the schools strengths and weaknesses, but also your own. Going to a smaller, lesser known program is going to require that you work harder to get experience that will make you stand out over someone that went to a school like JHU or Harvard. At least if the MPH is your terminal degree. Like you said, it matters less if you're planning to pursue further education afterwards.Maybe tomorrow
I understand everyone has their own personal opinion on ranking etc... but one cannot say that it does not matter. Its extremely subjective to each individual's situation. If you want to use the degree has a stepping-stone it may not matter as much as long as your improve your weakness which I am assuming why an individual is forgoing a grad degree since they were unable to obtain their desired schooling just via undergrad. Also, if this is your end goal the career and opportunities. If you are looking to work in a big-time corporate company in a big city it may still matter. My point is just do your H.W thoroughly don't just take our opinions for it.
Anyone heard from Columbia today ??
I received an email from Columbia's financial aid dept. stating that I am missing some documents. In it, contained my PID which I used to complete the institutional supplemental app. But according to the virtual chat today, they said they said some of us received that notice in error, and that the other missing documents should be completed in the summer since it concerns loans. I haven't received my financial aid package yet.
From what I've heard, the program is so intense that it's not really a disadvantage. Instead of skipping things, you just end up cramming all of it into 1 year. Plus, I feel like gaining practical experience in the field is more advantageous than spending time in a classroom. What are people's thoughts about the accelerated course structure of the MSPH program at JHU? Having to finish of all the public health coursework in 1 year instead of the usual 2 seems a little intimidating to me though I'm sure it would be nice to get more time to do fieldwork
Did you call yesterday??So when I called Harvard a few days ago, they asked for my name & when I gave it to them they said I would be hearing from them in 5 business days.
What do you guys think? Rejection or Acceprance?
Hard to tell from a quick "you'll hear from us in 5 business days."

I did. They rejected me at a little more than 11 weeks after my app was submitted to them.Has anyone heard a decision on JHU MPH? It seems everyone who has heard is doing MSPH or MHS? I applied for an MPH with a concentration in women's and reproductive health, and my application was verified by SOPHAS 12/21, with an email from JHU on 1/5 saying it is now under review.
I called them yesterday and the man I spoke to told me that the admissions committee has until Monday March 16th to make decisions... his tone somehow implied things weren't hopeful, but maybe I was reading into it too much! He also said that since this is their first year using SOPHAS, things have been delayed, etc. I'm so anxious to hear back, and I'm wondering if anyone else has!
Honestly, I don't think you can infer anything from that phone call. Don't read into it at all.So when I called Harvard a few days ago, they asked for my name & when I gave it to them they said I would be hearing from them in 5 business days.

Are any brave souls going to call Columbia today? I was going too but I woke up from a nightmare I was rejected![]()
You probably won't even be able to reach the department if you ask. I could not get a hold of them to get a question answered. So frustrating. I've heard their admin staff aren't the most organized, but I guess with a program that size, who can blame them. Are any brave souls going to call Columbia today?
