MPH Fall 2016: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Guys.. I have a strange question .. but I hope someone will answer it 😀 ..

When shall we start applying for loans? because I tried Citizens Bank application and application for summer and fall has not opened yet..

Does anyone know if schools consider your FAFSA complete if you haven't filed your taxes yet? Or will they not even look at your FAFSA until all the 2015 tax information is entered?

Interested in the answer to this as well, but it looks like you can go ahead and estimate the tax info on the FAFSA and then correct it later if anything changes when you file taxes. I have my 2015 W2 already so I'm just going to use that.

Reading this thread makes me so nervous about my app to Columbia since I haven't heard from them. Yikes. And then I realized, I applied to the Accelerated Program for MD's, etc. Anyone else in my shoes? Congratulations to everyone who got into Columbia!

I applied to the accelerated one as well & haven't heard back! Makes me nervous though

Has anyone sent update letters to schools you haven't heard from yet? Does anyone know if that's recommended or if it's better to just wait it out? I'm really hoping to hear from Harvard soon and I would absolutely attend if accepted.. Thanks!

Congratulations!! I'm waiting (im)patiently to hear from LSHTM. When did you apply?
One of my referees insists she never got a LOR request...which I don't buy at all. Guess I'll be waiting a bit longer:annoyed:

That's a good point. I was thinking about it as well, especially for Harvard. I am nervous for it too and I would absolutely attend if I got in.

Ugh! That's so frustrating! I hope it gets submitted soon. Waiting is no fun. I called LSHTM a few weeks ago and they told me they're delayed with applications so it's taking longer than 6-8 weeks to get a decision.

Admitted to Johns Hopkins MSPH in International Health / Social and Behavioral Interventions! (2/12 @ ~10AM)
😀
Congratulations! I'm waiting to hear back from them, hope it is soon. If I get in it's going to be a tough choice between JHU and Columbia

The turn-around can be quick: I interviewed on 2/5 and was accepted yesterday. The interview was definitely very casual. We talked about the program and my interests/goals...no curveballs
Great, that's good to hear. Just had my interview this morning and it seemed to go pretty well. No curveballs and pretty straightforward. Crossing my fingers to hear back soon!

Anyone go to the HPM U-Mich meet the faculty day thing?

Did you have a formal interview?
What was it like?

I applied early December, did you apply to the same program?

No, I applied to MSc Control of Infectious Diseases. Just wondered how long it took them to give you a decision. The registry team told me they were delayed, but I think I should hear from them anytime now. I also applied at the beginning of December.

I'm sure you'll hear soon! They notify you via email, but mine was sent to my junk mail (apparently UK addresses are suspicious lol) l so you may want to check there.

Has anyone else been trying to write a thesis but you're not really accomplishing anything because you're too busy looking into your schools and checking emails?....hopefully not just me😳

It seems like some Yale decisions came out yesterday...are there still people waiting? I was verified mid-January, and did not hear from them yesterday like others.
I didn't hear back either, got the "application complete" email on January 11th. With this batch of decisions they just sent out I figured I would email them to get a better estimate of when to expect a decision on my application. I was told to expect one by the end of February/ 1st week of March. I wonder if decisions have to do with area of study (I'm an HCM applicant)? Either way it looks like more anxious waiting ahead for me!

Does anyone know what happens at Columbia's admitted students day or know where we can find the schedule for the day?

You basically meet with professors and listen to presentations from faculty and staff. I attended last year and met a professor during the lunch portion. I was lucky in that she is now the faculty member who I'm closest to. There were mixers for doctoral students and students who received merit scholarships (not too sure about this). If you're set on attending Columbia, I don't think it is too helpful to go, but it does depend on you!

Haven't been as involved in the beginning but sharing the news.
Accepted: COLUMBIA (Sociomedical Sciences & certificate in Social Determinants of Health); Emory (behavioral sciences and health education).
Rejected: UNC; Emory- Global Health

GRE: (2011) V 700 (96%) ; Q 690 (56%) ; A 6 (99%)
GPA: 3.78 (SOPHAS) but actual undergrad 3.87

Got my Pay Admissions Deposit from Emory this morning!!!! :soexcited:

I'm assuming it's for the BSHE Department too, holy hell. I should be crying, but I am more in a state of shock and gratitude because it's my first choice!!!!! I just hugged my mom and celebrated with my family at home.

Let this give anyone hope for this year and next: I had a below average GPA and my GRE wasn't the best at all, but stats aren't everything. I personally think what helped was 4 strong recommendation letters (as well as some strong mentors who believed in me), a **** ton of ECs, an upward trend, and a strong PS. :claps: 😍

NOW ONTO MY DUAL DEGREE APPLICATION!:=|:-):

Ah, congratulations! What a relief. 🙂 Will you definitely be going?

Honestly, I think I am set on Emory. I think a part of me could have accepted that I would be happy elsewhere if I had been rejected, but I really think Emory is my school of choice and I will be attending hands down. Coming from undergrad, it is definitely not a perfect school by any means, but the opportunities Emory presents have been meaningful and worthwhile as an undergrad. And the chance to go back as a graduate student (and be close to my friends and family that I have in GA) is just perfect enough for me for my life right now (I'm almost 23). Granted, I am no way out of the woods right now because I have to wait on the Bioethics Program part of the dual-degree, but I think I'm going back to Emory. Which is definitely a huge relief because this entire process was nerve-wrecking because I was just super focused on the perceptions my stats gave.

If anyone is set on Emory as well, I'd be happy to chat and give some advice on Atlanta, Emory and life there in general (I've seen some posts, but haven't had the chance to reply since I've been busy this past week for sure).

Ohhhh okay! I'll double check the email and probably email them as well, just to make sure haha. But mine is also global health with the concentration in infectious disease. And thank you!! I can use plenty of good vibes haha
Any news?!

Those of you who were accepted to Colorado - has anyone heard anything else from them?? My initial email (almost two weeks ago) said I was recommended for admission, and that they would email me within a couple of days with more information and a formal acceptance letter. I haven't heard from them since.

It took CO quite a while to get back to me with the new student checklist and next steps email (I emailed to follow up after 10 days and it took a few more days after that). I then got another email AFTER that saying "Your decision will be released soon." Assuming that's a fluke...

After submitting my verified app in early December, and working through multiple administrative problems (not being able to access OPUS in Jan, to-do list mishaps, etc.) I *FINALLY* heard back from Emory today!!! Now if only Harvard would release their decisions... What a roller coaster ride. Congrats to everyone on their acceptances!

Haha, I think they sent that email to all applicants, including the people who heard in the initial round of acceptances. Thanks for letting me know though, I feel better now. I did email them earlier today to ask about it so hopefully I'll hear back this week!

For those of you who got into Columbia did your acceptance email give you any kind of login information or anything?

Got into Yale MPH in Epi of Microbial Diseases this afternoon! Still waiting to hear from Michigan and Columbia like many of you ugh haha

I don't know about you guys but I wasn't too confident in my application at first but now I'm overwhelmed with the decision of which program to choose! It's a good problem to have I guess, but I was wondering is there a thread for the final decision-making process? So many factors to consider I'm losing my mind a bit LOL

Hey guys, does anyone know if there is a thread specifically for HPM applicants? Now that everyone has received some acceptances, I would love to talk with people to compare the HPM programs at different schools (I am an HPM candidate myself). Best to combine our knowledge and brain power! If there isn't a thread yet but people are interested in this, let me know and I can try and get one started.

If you want to start a new thread, go to the front page of the forum and click on "Post New Thread." You could do a search to find old HPM threads, but I would highly recommend starting a new thread for Fall 2016, just to keep things consistent.

I haven't seen a thread but I would definitely be interested!

I'm kind of confused about Pitt and not sure if this happened to anybody else -last week they sent me an email saying I was accepted into one of their certificate programs that was a part of the MPH program study. Today I got an email saying they rejected me from the MPH program?

Yesterday was the last day for UW COPHP early decision folks to commit, so hopefully that means that we regular decision people will hear back soonish! 🙂

Certificate programs tend to be geared more toward a specific subject area, and have fewer number of courses so as not to constitute an actual degree. Unfortunately, since I could not gauge your stats or background from you prior posts, I cannot tell you why you were accepted into a certificate program and not a degree program. If your ultimate goal is MPH, and you are accepted into a program, then chose that over the certificate.

Just got a second email saying my Yale application is complete and they will let me know when a decision has been made. Got the first one a month ago. Weird
