So sorry @Saji :s:s! Best of luck with your remaining applications! Have you heard from Drexel?Just got rejected by Columbia 🙁
I think we will all hear from them next week.
Not yet.. fingers crossed for Drexel.. What about you? Did you hear from Columbia? So sorry @Saji :s:s! Best of luck with your remaining applications! Have you heard from Drexel?
Thanks for the info about the separate committee. I didn't know whether it was reviewed by 1 and then the other, or if they all met together once or twice a month. Have you heard back from them yet? I feel like I'm sitting on pins and needles waiting to hear back. What other programs are you considering?I am also waiting on dual/concurrent degree (MSW/MPH) for Berkeley. There is a separate committee , so I'm in the dark on when I might hear back. I have been admitted to both at WUSTL, but am terrified of the six figure debt. WUSTL will likely be my only option as my numbers aren't really competitive for Berkeley...
Congrats on the acceptance! I was accepted to the MS program in Global Health and the Environment, was that the one you applied to? I spoke with the director of the GHE program on the phone who said something about a $5000 fellowship for the first semester, but that I would need to figure out my own funding with TA/RA positions. That is interesting about financial aid packages being given out after students accept. I suppose I can talk to current students to see how many received funding after they accepted...It makes it super hard to make a decision. I agree it is bogus! I don't want to give up a position at other schools where I have more funding without knowing! I am trying to decide if I should even visit since they did not offer to reimburse that and I am across the country...
Ec_lc1114 being in-state certainly makes it more reasonable. I would be more comfortable committing in that case. I bet you have a better chance of funding being in-state as well. Good luck!!
Thank you so much for posting this! I applied and was able to get some funds to help with the visit. Very very helpful since I will be flying all the way from Oregon! For anyone attending Visit Emory, there are travel grants available. All you have to do is fill out this short document and express your financial need! I requested $150 and was awarded $100. Hope this helps offset some costs for you guys! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1AVzXA2ImaGmO_XHglrFRm5mFXNP6ttgXPgSWsWLECxM/viewform?c=0&w=1
I actually heard my recommendation to the program awhile ago, January 22nd, and I didn't get the official letter from the grad school till February 17th. So, I wouldn't be too worried if it takes a while.
The silence continues! WUSTL is my only other choice for dual degree and I will not be attending because of the cost. I was not awarded any scholarship money. Six figures of debt is way too much for any degree but MD or DO, in my opinion. Thanks for the info about the separate committee. I'm glad you were able to receive funds to help you out! That is quite the commute from Oregon, will you be attending both days?Wow!

I hope so! 🙂I think we will all hear from them next week.
I called Columbia and they said that I would hear from them by mid-March...so I will be waiting (anxiously of course!) 🙂.Not yet.. fingers crossed for Drexel.. What about you? Did you hear from Columbia?
That's still sounds good ..Good luck to you too. Will let you know 🙂I called Columbia and they said that I would hear from them by mid-March...so I will be waiting (anxiously of course!) 🙂.
Good luck with Drexel! Keep me posted!
I'm sorry to hear that 🙁 It is a bit ridiculous how much these programs cost. Have you tried explaining your circumstances and asking if they have any additional scholarships you could apply for or grants available? The silence continues! I'm crossing my fingers that we'll hear back from Berkeley soon! At this point, I just want to hear back with something regardless of whether it's good or (more likely) bad news.
Also just out of curiosity, how come you didn't apply to BU? I've heard from former colleagues that they have a good MSW/MPH program.
I have no idea what Columbia is looking for. There's people with low stats and moderate EC's that Columbia accepted. And there were some qualified people that it placed on a waitlist or rejected. I really think it's down to "fit" for this institution. So, if anyone hasn't gotten accepted to their dream school, know that it's probably not your app but more so you may not be successful at their school if they don't have a focus you are looking for.
I forgot that the dual degrees are usually 3 years, not 2. That definitely makes it a lot less affordable/desirable... and like you said, probably not worth it unless you knew you were going to make bank after graduating. (What public health professional doesn't dream of that?) Maybe it's a good thing I haven't heard from Berkeley then haha. I've seen rejections go out for the other half of the dual I applied for (master's in city planning) already, so that's why I'm confused as to why I haven't received anything. Perhaps it comes from the public health side since that's the primary dept. Sigh. Agreed, would like to get the rejection already so I can move on with my life!I don't really have any circumstances to explain beyond the cost being too much and I am sure they get that everyday. They gave me a little bit ($10K) for the MSW program but $10K is not much when the total cost for tuition for three years is $109K! (The MSW program is $39K/year.) I've been all over their financial aid website and they have some $5,000/year research fellowships to apply to but that's all I am seeing beyond the talk of other types of employment, like barista, which I find off-putting. I'm just not going to sign my life away, which is what that level of debt essentially is.
I didn't apply to BU because of the cost. There were so many things about it that I liked. There's a lot of places I didn't apply to for the reason, UW being the other one that comes to mind. Financially speaking, I only applied to WUSTL because I knew from these threads in years past that they were usually generous with the scholarship money. I had to interview to be accepted, then I was accepted at full tuition and I have not seen one other person be admitted without a scholarship. So obviously they don't view me as being a particularly desirable applicant that they actually want to attend.
I would love to finally get my rejection letter from Berkeley, LOL! That's my last MSW/MPH application that I don't have a response from. Maybe by the 1st? On GradCafe, it seems when people have been rejected from my program it happened at the end of Feb/early March.
I'm wondering the same thing! Can't find anything on the website about it.Hi! Does anyone know if Johns Hopkins has a travel grant request form similar to Emory's? Thanks!
Had I known this program even existed, I would have applied!!!Did anyone here also apply at Georgetown for the Biohazardous Threat Agents/Emerging Infectious Diseases MS? (This was the only non-MPH program I applied to, but very similar to some MPH programs). I was accepted but given very little additional information to go on, and am wondering if that was the case for anyone else.

If I could have your Columbia scholarship, that would be amazingI'm going to Dartmouth and have pulled the rest of my applications. I'm so happy to be done with this process!
Hope this helps someone on Columbia (HPM) or BU's waitlist and good luck everyone!!!
If you applied to UW (Health Services) - check your graduate application! I received an acceptance today 🙂
guess it wont hurt to call, even if just for curiosity sake
Congrats on UIC! Did they notify via email or did they just update your application status on your login page?

Congratulations! I was accepted into the COPHP program within Health Services, so I'll be eager to see what people say. 🙂Does anyone know much about the Health Services program at UW? I just got in and would love to know everyone's thoughts! I am mainly interested in Health Policy and would like to know how you think UW compares to place like Emory or GW.
