PS would you mind telling me your stats? I'd like to know if I even have a chance.
undergrad in Biochem and Psych: 3.93 cGPA, 3.87sGPA; 26P: 9B, 9P, 8V; lots of research, volunteering, and extra-cirriculars; not as much shadowing as I should have
However, I think I'm going to pass it up. My deadline is Dec. 1st and I have another acceptance at KCUMB and an interview at OU (I'm from Ohio, so this would be nice). Even with the scholarship, MSU is still more expensive than my alternatives. I like the school A LOT, but not enough I suppose... Good Luck to you!
Does anyone know if the ADCOM will be meeting this week, my app was just complete today (last LOR was just received a week after all the rest), also do they call or email the acceptance notification?
thitchcock, Im in the exact same boat as you! My whole app was complete over a week ago, except one letter, which finally arrived today!
Any idea how many more times the committee meets this year? I'd love to hear back by Christmas from somewhere!
In-staters who have gotten in (congrats!!) and what were your stats if you don't mind me asking.
What would be considered competitive stats for an instater?
Thanks 🙂
Just received my admissions email!!
I applied for DO/PhD and already had 2 interviews. I just had to get accepted into DO for acceptance into the dual degree program.
I will be going to the East Lansing campus. I have a ton of connections through research here.
For those that will inevitably ask:
My stats were 3.5 Overall GPA 3.4 Science GPA 27Q MCAT with 3000 hours of volunteer work and 500 hours of clinical work.
I received the email 10 minutes ago.
Good Luck to the rest of you!!
Were you already admitted into the graduate program? I'm applying to the DO/PhD program too and had my interviews with Dr. McCormick and was accepted into the DO program in October. How do you know you were admitted into DO/PhD? My understanding is that we wouldn't hear until March but I think I was confused...
Also, congrats!😀
Dr. McCormick had me talk to the director of the physiology graduate program, who I am already familiar with. He told me he had no issues with my admittance into the program and would refer me back to Dr. McCormick for admission into the dual program. Dr. McCormick then told me the main concern was whether or not I would be admitted into the DO program. Now that I have I just have to hear back from Dr. McCormick again.
I am lucky in that I have worked in the physiology department for a year and know a lot of people that Dr. McCormick is familiar with. I haven't been formally accepted yet, however.
I don't know how your interview went with Dr. McCormick, but I do know that the interview itself is definitely a good sign according to the PI that I work for.
Would anyone who got in in the past few weeks mind sharing your stats?
does anyone know how many people have gotten accepted so far??
In state, 3.5 science, 3.67 non science, 26Q, research, shadow, hospital volunteer, blah blah blah.....ya the usual. PM me if you want more detailed answer.
Had a class meeting this past Friday, I think Kathy mentioned that there are 27 open spots left, and class is about 196. Don't take me word though, that number just comes to mind. But I do know that MSUCOM tends to fill up the class by December. Think CCOM does the same....
Thanks!
Any clue if she meant they had given out 196 acceptances or if 196 had accepted? I know at least 3 people who were accepted but are waiting to here from MD programs or have declined bc they got into MD programs.
196 is class size, not acceptances, but even that number is wrong. Sorry I forgot to factor in the expansion of our 2 new sites, so the class size is 300. From what I understand, most of the acceptances have been given out, and as I mentioned before, I believe (and don't take my word), around 27 positions are left to hand out.
I don't understand, if theres 300 spots and 196 acceptances, how is there only 27 spots left? Are the 27 just at a particular campus?...i checked on the website and class size is 320

I hope this doesn't sound rude but we all know that there are so many students who apply to COM schools as back-ups for MD schools and OOS who may choose another school over MSUCOM bc of the large OOS tuition but they still may have put in a deposit bc it was their only or top acceptance so far. So even though 196 may have sent in their deposit we know it will shift, not all of them will be going to MSUCOM in the fall.
I haven't heard either but I have 3 friends who put in their deposit there but are waiting to hear from MD (1 already did, YAH for her and us!) so that is how I'm rationalizing it to keep my head up.
Best of luck to you tomorrow!
I do feel that I need to make a comment. I don't understand the mentality of "waiting to hear from MD" schools ... either you embrace the DO philosophy or you don't. DO shouldn't be a back up plan. To me, this takes away from the brilliant and very competent DO prospects ... yes, most of them could have got into a MD school also.
Just let me say, I am not bashing you for your comments at all ... just have been wanting to express my feelings on the topic ...
Again, best of luck tomorrow!!!
I completely agree with you. I don't think it's right of them either. My intention when making that comment was to state that the # of spots filled in the class isn't accurate at this moment and we shouldn't be nervous because of it.
It isn't just DO schools that people "wait to hear from." Many schools, including MD schools, end up sending out much more offers than the number of seats in their programs. This is because many competitive applicants apply to many schools and get a number of acceptances and are then must decide which school to attend.
where do most of the MSUCOM students live? I'm trying to start looking at prices and such.
I couldn't believe I wasted my time and money applying after looking at the OOS tuition for this school.
Stupid me! Had I known, I would not have applied.
you are right on a few of those statements, LOL
dont you look up the school before you apply to it?![]()
Does anyone know if there will be another round of decisions sent out tomorrow?
They are meeting tomorrow and not again until the second week of January.
