According to an earlier poster it sounds as though they have sent out 300 offers. Of course some of those people may choose to go elsewhere. What was not clear is whether they also sent out the over acceptances yet. Many schools send out a predicted number of acceptances beyond the class size based on prior years acceptance data.

No way! Seriously?! I'm sure not everyone is going to accept their offer of admission. But wow, I wish I would have gotten my stuff in earlier.

On the other hand, I think they'd be doing themselves a disservice. There are lots of great applicants out there. And they might have taken their time to put together their best application. Really, there are lots of reasons that someone might apply later in the cycle, so it seems like MSU-COM would be missing out on accepting lots of great people if they fill up their class early. What's the first year class size? 314 first year students, according to the AACOMAS handbook.

At the visit Nov 30th Kathie Schafer (the director of admissions) said that they sent out EXACTLY 300 acceptances.

Will the committee still meet as scheduled and just be assigning wait lists in the meantime?
 
That's what I am wondering. There *will* be movement off the wait list, but when do those emails go out?
 
wednesday.. when they meet on Weds do they send acceptances to the people they review same day? (in case they still send acceptances 🙁 )
 
Just curious, but has anyone else on this forum been officially wait listed yet besides me and walleyealx (back in October)?
 
Note to self:

Do not email questions on Wednesdays. They may respond quickly and the excitement of seeing COM in the mailbox is too quickly followed by disappointment when I realize they were only responding to my question.
 
I was accepted today! They are still extending offers for admission. Was complete on 11/5

cGPA: 3.7-3.8
sGPA: 3.7-3.8
MCAT: 28-30Q after a 25-27O
About 700-900 volunteer hours, 1900-2100 work hours (800 in hospital setting), 1400-1600 extracurricular hours

Congratulation to you!

I shall live my life vicariously through the med school acceptance of others, lol.

When the cycle ends, I will schedule a meeting with an advisor from this school to see whether they will give me a blatant "NO" regarding my stats so I can save myself from the heartache by applying somewhere else next year 🙂

I figure the way of peace right now for me is to let it be. So let there be love and a resounding Amen for that.

I know a few people, two as of now, who were accepted to MSUCOM and will be withdrawing to go elsewhere. So I'm sure there will be waitlist movement! :luck:
 
Waitlisted. I guess all the Canadian seats have been taken 🙁

Yea same boat as you. I was waitlisted a month ago (Canadian). The spots filled up really fast this year and they arent doing highwaitlist this year either. I'm surprised there hasn't been any movement yet on the list🙁

what were your stats

Yeah it sucks. Hopefully we get some movement in the new year (fingers crossed).
3.5 gpa and 32 mcat.
What do yours look like?
 
Has anyone been waitlisted that is NOT canadian? I feel like that's all that's being waitlisted right now because they've hit the max of 20 Canadians for their class (I would assume that waitlist will be different than the American waitlist), but I don't really know. Are they not making an American waitlist until after the deposit deadline does anybody know?

3.6 gpa and 26 mcat ...you have a really good mcat so i wouldn't worry 👍, permitted you volunteer hours and refs are good you'll be near the top of the waitlist...not that there are many people on it:luck:

I hope you get in....it sucks that you still havent heard anythingg from them...good thing you got into another school though 🙂

Thank you! Same to you! I really don't like the way they review their applicants - if I am really waiting from when I was complete in July all the way to April that just stinks! :uhno:

I agree, it is frustrating to see people getting reviewed who were complete in October or November when we were complete months prior. Don't get me wrong, I am totally happy for everyone who gets accepted. I just wish they reviewed files in a more chronological order.

I just don't like sitting around getting my hopes up, only to get rejected in April (again). I feel like my application is pretty well-rounded and I'd like to at least get it LOOKED AT this year! lol

No I think someone answered that question a day or two ago on this thread. They are pulling off the waitlist based off of rank/stats, not by complete date or when placed on the waitlist.

Yeah, I really felt like their secondary gave me a chance to really highlight my strong points. I really want them to look at it even if they do not select me I want to know I was actually considered.

Yeah so far on the forum I've been waitlisted (American, IS) and so has walleyealx

Hey guys, another Canadian here. I was just wait-listed today. This is my first choice school and it sucks!
Can I send in an academic up date when I finish this term? how about an up date regarding ECs?
I really really wanna go here!
Anyone know how many Canadians have been waitlisted this year? or how many applied? And has the Canadian waitlist moved much in the past?
Also do we need to respond to that email about visiting the campus? I mean I would love to but I just cant!

As far as updating ECs, I asked and I was told to add it to the EC sheet and note revised at the top of the form.

I was waitlisted over a month ago as a Canadian applicant. I know one other person who was also waitlisted about that time. A few Canadians got waitlisted today. There might be 5-10 on it. There hasn't been any movement so far this year...usually there is by now...dont know what is going on lol... What are your stats like?
 
3.66 and 29O with average ECs. I guess were all just going to have to wait and see. I regret applying so late. I submitted my secondary first week on November.

I tried a while back. Lol i'm sure others will agree with me but the secretary at COM is a ....you can do the math....she basically said to book an appointment with the counselors and they'd be the only one's who could tell you....i have an appointment with lorie on jan 7th...which is still a while away👎

I called. They won't tell you anything.

Apparently 2 people who were friends were both on the waitlist, when one was accepted by way of highwaitlist, the other one made a scene about how the accepted student had a lower GPA/MCAT/EC than the rejected student and demanded to know why MSUCOM took an inferior candidate. Schools don't want to hear whining. So they ruined it for everybody, MSU used to be able to tell you things like how many people are on the waitlist, and what ranking you are. But no longer. Hence also one of the reasons the highwaitlist was taken away.

Blame the haters.

According to past years, there will minimal movement on the Canadian waitlist; not until mid-April to May. Because that's when Canadian MD schools sent out their offer. But things have changed this year. MSU really made a name for itself as well as the osteopathic profession (evident in the removal of the highwaitlist). Even the other day, a friend of mine (doing med lab sci at UBC) was advised by an elderly pathology professor to attend MSUCOM for DO!!! That's a HUGE deal. usually aged Canadian MDs are hesitant about DOs. Not a diss, just a Canadian fact (DOs are still FMG in Canada, and are not given equal treatment as US MDs, circa 2012), cause we have "osteopaths" who did not receive medical school training purporting to be effective physicians. Again, ruining it for the rest of us.

Blame the fakers.

If you are American and on the waitlist, don't worry, I was told historically 1/3 of the class reject offers. But not so for Canadians. May be only 3-4/20 will reject the offer.

So this year, if you are a Canadian and on the waitlist like me,

Merde pour toi!
