MSUCOM's guide to pre-studying anatomy

MSUCOM has sent all of its accepted applicants a packet of info on optional material to use to pre-study for anatomy. I know the general consensus is that you should not attempt and pre-study for med school to get a head start since it is not overly effective and can be a waste of time.

What are people's thoughts on MSUCOM doing this?

Interesting, I can't answer but I can add that at my last interview I was told to "review" my Immunology, Biochemistry, and Anatomy UG courses. I didn't have the cahonas to question this at the time. My SDN reflex tells me 'heck no, I know better than that', but when I really think about it I can't help but feel like reviewing could only help..

OP, are you referring to the "prematriculation experience"? If I remember correctly I believe it roughly covered the intro chapter of MD&A Clinically Oriented Anatomy. It's all good stuff to know (things like directional terms, intro to body systems, etc.) -- and that you probably can just flip through and read the bits that don't look too familiar.

If this is something else, I'm not sure that we got it last year...

Anyways, I'm of the mind that true pre-studying is useless. However, I don't believe this kind of stuff is truly pre-studying (in the sense that you're actually laying a groundwork for the first day of class and not trying to memorize the brachial plexus or something silly like that).

Well the idea is that it's stuff you should already know from undergrad. If you do, don't worry about it. If you don't, just take a couple hours to go over it.
