I am deciding between Marian & LECOM-Bradenton. Definitely want to specialize in some sort of Primary Care specialty.... Family Medicine, Peds, or IM. Only "others" I might consider are OB/GYN or EM currently.

LECOM-Bradenton
Pros:
-High board score pass rates
-established program
-don't mind PBL
-CHEAP tuition
-nice area

Cons:
-have heard mixed things about their rotations
-mixed feelings about student environment

MU-COM
Pros:
-loved the environment there
-close to home
-flexible class schedule
-new facilities
-near big cities

Cons:
-new program??
-doesn't have as many connections due to the newness of program

Would love to hear peoples opinions, pros and cons.

I don't know much about Marian but, I got such weird vibes from LECOM. I interviewed at both Seton Hill and Bradenton and both gave me a weird vibe. I don't like how they treat you like children by not allowing even a bottle of water in mandatory lecture. I don't like the dress code while in lecture. We are functional adults...why can't we wear what we want to lecture and whenever we are in a clinical environment or have a guest speaker juts use our common sense to know to dress more formally? I just thought it was weird lol. If you don't acer about that stuff, the program itself seemed good. PBL scares me a little just because I've never experienced it but, I'd be open to it. Good luck!

In all honesty the common complaints about LECOM Bradenton seem to be a stretch for me. In the end think about what school will prepare you for the future you want. I believe there are no rotations issues anymore.

You would believe wrong. LECOM-B still has some serious issues. The common complaints on SDN have all been confirmed to me by a few of their students.

OP, I would go to MU-COM any day, every day over LECOM-B. They actually have some pretty good clinical connections in Indiana, and they had a decent match list for their first class. They are on the right track.

I just meant that the complaints were minuscule compared to the board scores students receive. Who cares about clowns, bottled water, and professional dress code.. all that matters is if PBL is the right learning style for you which is a personal preference. You’ll barely be going to class so that dress code is minimal.

Lastly, I’m not sure about rotations but I have a lot of friends at LECOM who say otherwise. In reality DO schools all have a little bit of a problem with rotations compared to MD.

Oh I agree that other stuff doesn’t matter and is overblown. I’m specifically talking about rotations and LECOM-B has terrible, and I mean terrible, rotations. The students I have talked to in the last two years have all been overwhelmingly negative. You are basically on your own for 4th year, even more so than other schools, and even the 3rd year rotations are iffy. They are constantly losing sites because they won’t pay preceptors. The board scores are good because you have lots of time to study for them, but you can do that pretty much anywhere if you’re motivated. I personally withdrew my LECOM-B app after talking to some 3rd year students who were rotating st the hospital I worked at. Their Step 1 scores are high but their Step 2 scores have consistently been below average. Admittedly I haven’t see their most recent data.
Now this all only applies to LECOM-B. The PA site is completely fine.
