Hi guys, has anyone heard from MUSC lately? I'm wondering why I haven't, or if there's something wrong with my app that I'm just not seeing. I really thought I'd get an interview with them, because my stats are just above their average... but nothing. 🙁

Same! In the same boat and have been seeing people with lower DAT & GPAs getting interviews.

Super frustrating. I don’t understand :/ and it’s not like i’m missing extracurriculars because I have so many shadowing and volunteer hours. Plus i’m a hygienist! 🙂

Hi all, congratulations on your interviews and thank you for your interest in MUSC. December 15th is right around the corner, but by no means the end of the road. Charleston is a beautiful place and I am so lucky to call it home, I hope that you will get to experience it for yourself! If you guys have any questions or if there is anything I can an elaborate on from the admissions perspective, ask away or send me a PM. Good luck!

Thank you so much!

I've heard that some schools won't even bother interviewing you if your stats are "too far" (whatever that means?) above their average. In essence, I've heard they usually just assume you'll choose to attend another school with higher stats more similar to your own, is this true???

It seems so backwards to me, but in several of the SDN threads for schools I've applied to, I've seen people with less volunteer hours, lower stats, and less dental experience than I have, but they're getting interviews. I've heard that maybe personal statements play a bigger role in some schools than others, but I was told by the health professions committee at my university that I have one of the strongest personal statement's they've read. (I've been through quite a bit of adversity, LOL). Please please don't let this come off as ungrateful, at all! I totally don't mean it that way. I've received interviews from 5 schools this cycle and I'm SO thankful for those! But some of the schools I haven't heard from were some of my top picks, and my stats are a bit above their averages, yet I haven't heard anything. Meanwhile, schools who's stats are right at / slightly above mine, I've gotten interviews with.. Such as UNC Chapel Hill. Just trying to make sense of the madness.

Lastly, good luck to everyone! December 15th is coming FAST!!! 🙂

That’s not exactly true, every school looks for something different girl! Anyway I hope you get interviews from your top picks too, good luck!

I'll debunk that myth and tell you that is not the case at MUSC (can probably apply to all schools). Why would a school pass up on someone that they believe will benefit the student body? Yes, numbers and stats are important and get your foot in the door. But you have to view the applicant as a complete package. How has this applicant expressed interest in our program? Do they have ties to the state, attended our predental days, called admissions expressing their interest? (These are just some examples of factors outside of numbers and stuff on your app). You may know how badly you want to go to a particular school, but they will not know that until you tell them. Programs get so many applicants each year that it really comes down to splitting hairs. If you continue to compare yourself to others, you will drive yourself crazy, even more after you begin dental school. I'd caution you to take everything you read on SDN with a grain of salt, especially as panic thoughts begin to flood your mind with Dec. 15th coming up...remember that Dec. 15th is the FIRST day that acceptances can be sent be out and certainly not the last for a long time.

Congratulations on your interviews and I'm wishing you best of luck!

Hi I’m a current student at MUSC CDM and I can assure you that this is not true, I don’t know of any school that does this, dental schools look for students who will enrich not only their school but fellow classmates as well. They don’t pass up applicants just bc they have higher stats than the schools average. And speaking of stats, every school weighs different aspects of an application differently and a lot of times it seems to not make sense but i can assure you that it all works out in the end. SDN threads are informative to a point but I totally agree to always take it with a grain of salt!

Does anyone know if they are doing UPS mychoice this year?

Guys are you sure they're gonna notify us via Email? I swear I remember them telling us to set up our UPS if we wanted because they were going to send us a packet.

I'm not sure - I personally do not remember hearing that. I know they have like a little portal. I may find my login info and check that...?

Anybody else get an email? I wonder if they're sending them in batches?

Congratulations on the offer!!! Weird question but can I ask what letter
your last name starts with?

I am pretty sure they are not going by alphabetical order but rather the date of your interview. Can you guys share when you interviewed for the ones who got accepted?

Haven't received an offer yet but for what it's worth I interviewed on 11/6.

Just got an offer! Fingers crossed for you guys here, they're still going! I

Anyone heard anything since 12? I interviewed Sept 25

I interviewed first round (9/11) and have yet to hear back. Anyone else in a similar position? Also a current student did tell me that they send out more acceptances later in the week, so for all of you who are in the same boat as myself, keep your head up!

same boat as you. And, musc was the school I felt the most confident about. As far as how well the interview went and such. I hope that’s the case!

I interviewed 9/25 and haven't heard either. I'd bet they've sent most of them out today and now its just a waiting game because I do remember them saying they don't fill the class the first day. Good luck!

You are probably right. I guess time will tell! Thanks you too!

I also interviewed on 9/11 this year, and I am still waiting to hear back. If they do send out more later this week, then we should just keep our eyes open.
