Do you have any other options that won't financially wreck the next 5-25 years?

School 1: MUSC
*OOS
Pros:
  • Charleston is beautiful, warmer weather
  • Smaller class size (75)
  • More individualized attention?
  • Closer to where my parents live
Cons:
  • Expensive
  • Not as well known as NYU
  • Further from where I live
School 2: NYU

Pros:
  • Well known
  • In New York, lots of opportunities
  • In the area of the country I predict I will live after graduation
  • Closer to where I live currently and where my long term partner will be living next year
Cons:
  • Expensive
  • Large class size (over 400)
  • Probably less nice, smaller housing
Summary: I'm really struggling to choose between these two and it is looking like they are going to come out to about the same cost considering I am out of state for MUSC. I do not really have a preference for either city. I want to go where I will be better prepared for my career as a dentist, and I haven't gotten the chance to see either school in person due to COVID. Looking for any and all guidance!
you will get a much more personal experience at MUSC...

I believe MUSC is a bit cheaper than NYU, including living costs. I also would rather have a smaller class size than one that is as large as NYU. I also heard at NYU last year 40 students had to repeat a year and 50 had to repeat a course. Haven't heard a lot of great things about the school. For these reasons, I would personally pick MUSC. The reputation of the school doesn't really have a huge weight as specializing will largely depend on how well you do in class.

But if price difference isn't too much and you truly see yourself practicing in NY, then it might be better to go to NYU, especially if you want to be closer to your partner.
