I am going in fourth year from September and applying in June with 3 years cGPA of 4.19 and sGPA 4.22. I am from Canada but taking American DAT in the end of June. Have shadowing experience of 60 hrs. Have strong LORs. How high should my DAT scores be to be in comfortably? Also if I get somewhat around 21 in all sections what kind of schools should I apply. Please dont criticize for asking this question with high GPA. I am asking it because I am not familiar with American application system and dont know what DAT score makes you really comfortable.

Can anyone who has been through this process put some light on it?

Well...your gpa is too high. As in, I don't think anyone would take it seriously unless you get a 25+ on the DAT.
Can you explain how you got a 4.2? That would be like getting 2A+s for each A you get. So your transcript looks like 20 A+'s and 10 A's? just want to confirm this.

Thanks for the reply. As per your question, I have taken 28 courses so far in which I have 19A+, 8A's and 1B. I asked about DAT as I am not able to devote enough time to it so just want to know if my GPA will compensate DAT or as you said it may not be taken seriously if DAT is below 25. I am not sure how well I will do as I still have to start to prepare for it.

Well, to be honest, in some schools you need to put days into each midterm and a week into the final to pull of an A+. And in some cases you won't get it because you are unlucky or it isn't you best subject (and it will need to be for you to get an A+). This is assuming the class did give out A+'s at all.
But maybe you did work very hard...but it will need to show in you DAT scores if you want that killer gpa to count. Good luck on the DAT. Don't ask what score you need, just aim for a 30 and don't worry about it.
I don't want it to seem like I am bashing you, just telling you what it seems like from a different perspective.

LOL homey you sound mad salty. Don't hate, give the man his props. And why you acting like you go to some prestigious undergrad dogg? Get the eff outta here with UC Davis

OP, I don't know how bad your undergrad is although I doubt it's much worse than UC Davis, but as long as you get 22s and 21s on the DAT, you're good. For reference, didn't my homey klutzy1987 go to some city college joint to get that 4.1 GPA? He turned out fine.

I am very new to this forum and even to American system of application but I thought people will be helpful so I asked this question. But now I am feeling I was mistaken. I don't want anyone to criticize my undergrads or to say anything bad about my University. Just to let you know I am at one of the best Universities of Canada - University of Toronto and before that I did one semester at IUPUI where I took 5 courses and got A+ in all of them. I don't want to sound snobbish but I feel its required to tell you guys and my degree is in Biochemistry. Though I have really worked hard to achieve this GPA but it doesn't mean in any way that my undergrad was very bad. Anyway I am feeling I have committed a mistake leaving this message on this forum. But still thanks a lot for replying.

No, no, no...you misunderstood me. It is very possible that you DID deserve the A+'s, but it was just unlikely. The average person with a 4.2 didn't...but maybe you did. I know Canadian universities can be very tough. So...just get a high DAT score...you will probably score much higher than you expect if you are as smart as you seem from your gpa.
good luck friend 👍

I thought U of T was on a 4.0 system, not a 4.3...

Sometimes, i deserved A+ but my professors refused to give a grade higher than A which I thought was very unfair.

I think most schools have 4.0 system but AADSAS count A+ higher than 4.0.
I only have 3 A+, I hope they count well enough to surprise me 🙂

keep in mind also that DS's also weigh EC, Dental experience and your interview, very heavily. You could have a 4.3GPA, with DAT scores of 29/30 and still not get in if your EC, Experience, Community Service, and Interview are all weak. DS's are looking for more well rounded people who can adapt to different situations during their 4 years in DS
