Hey guys, my GPA is about a 2.9 and my DAT AA was a 17.. I applied to Nova, UF, Howard, Meharry, and NYU.. I'm a minority, I ran track division I for 4 years at my school and I have shadowed over 100 hours with 3 different dentists.... I applied in June but didn't take the DAT until August 19th.. I'm also wondering if I should retake the DAT this cycle or wait until next cycle and try to raise my GPA up..

Scroll down to the "under 3.0 club" thread and compare yourself to see what any of them have done to get in.
I would just plan on getting that gpa up and retaking dat. Funny how mentioning that you're a minority really does change things in terms of your chances but let's save that discussion for another thread too.

Well I know that someone would probably ask if I'm a minority because I listed that I was applying to Meharry and Howard which I have heard they accept a majority of minorities at their schools. Thanks for the advice btw...

You have a chance at Meharry and Howard with those numbers. For all others, you need to retake the DAT and increase your GPA.

Your numbers should be fine at Howard... i believe the average is around 16's on the DAT's. If you have the time and resources, absolutely consider retaking the DAT's if you don't get in this year.

1. did you not read the "my chances" sticky?
2. you have a 2.9 and a 17 and you applied to only 5 schools???? you must REALLY be banking on that minority status.
3. unless you have a great PS and charasmatic personallity, your chances are slim to none, leaning towards none

Statistically you look good for meharry.

The only reason I applied to only 5 schools was because of money issues and I planned on making a higher score on the DAT but that didn't happen...

my two cents would be to try to get your GPA up, maybe check out some post-bac programs or master's degrees. You could use that time to study up for the DAT and apply early. You might find yourself in a better position, in my opinion

with a 2.9, i wouldnt be comfortable applying to only 5 schools with a 22 AA. you either a) seriously overestimated your abilities or b) dont understand the nature of dental school admissions

Thanks for the replies!!!
