My friend got accepted with sub 3.0 gpa.

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I can just imagine a certain someone in this thread becoming a pharmacist having to deal with counseling patients, making sure to tell them in a "holier than thou" tone about their lack of prioritizations of their lives when he he/she has to dispense meds such a librium, somvastatin, methergine, etc...

Nah, it's not worth my time or effort. I don't care about someone else's lifestyle, problems, grades, test scores or whatever. I am simply just stating a fact about pharmacy schools being very easy to get into and people with low GPA do not really care about academics. However in real life if I was to see someone that do NOT care about their own health or do not care about their own grades I would not say anything b/c why do I care? If they don't care about their own health or academic success why should I waste my breath to tell them? Unless it's one of my close friends or family members, I don't usually tell people my opinions b/c my time is gold.

The pharmacist under whom I work in the indy pharmacy does strongly advise patients to avoid destructive behaviors who are being prescribed certain medications, absolutely.

Who hasn't seen the severely overweight man or woman at the pharmacy counter picking up his/her metformin and seen Klondike bars and Hershey's Special Dark in the cart too? Or how about some Singulair with a carton of Marlboro Reds?

Wouldn't it be our responsibility as health care professionals, -clinicians-, to try to abrogate such behaviors? Hey there sir, I see you're picking up medication to manage your late on-set diabetes... Perhaps you should consider not taking that Jack Daniels home with you, and you oughta put that King Size Snickers back too.

Inevitably, and ultimately, the pt is in charge of his or her health. Unfortunately, we're stuck paying the bill most of the time, as they're on [insert public health program here] and they aren't paying for it. Their destructive behavior thus becomes our problem directly AND indirectly. Shouldn't the onus be set squarely upon our shoulders as pharmacists to do our best to stop the behavior, at the risk of seeming "holier than thou"??

Look guys,
I got into an easy school with my eyes closed and my sub 3.0 gpa because of the obvious reasons...

at exactly 16 seconds 😀

Once you get into pharmacy school youre gonna realize what a bunch of crap half the people on here say...

Dont sweat the small (and ignorant) stuff. After all, if it was so easy to get into, what makes one person better than the other if everyone is crossing the finish line.

Pharmacists are going to be obsolete in the future, and unless you do have brains, and can apply yourself into a clinical residency or any type of residency, than your pill counting days are numbered.

I did go to a public school. My student loans entirely covered my tuition and no more. So in order to pay for my rent, utilities, car, insurance, cell phone bill, maintenence, food, and other living expenses, I had to work. I was entirely self-reliant through my undergrad, and didn't rely on mom and dad to pay for me, and I'm damn proud of it.

Regardless, my financial situation was not the reason I worked full time. My love for pharmacy work was the reason I worked full time. And while I made the mistake of being unable to say no to "can you work more shifts," therefore leading to an inability to properly study for exams, it's not indicative of me being lazy, dumb, or spending all of my time "partying and relaxing at home." And you better believe this is what made the difference between my application and someone with a 3.4 and 70 PCAT who may not have gotten in, because my Personal Statement kicked all sorts of ass, and I would put my letters of reference up against anybody in this forum.

I also refer anybody here to Phathead at www.iwanttobeapharmacist.blogspot.com He just put up his transcript, because he's applying right now with a pretty similar gpa to mine. And not only is he a more qualified candidate that at least 75% of first years (and I include myself in that number), he also probably knows more right now than most people at the end of their first year.

Ya know, it's really weird to be visiting a forum you frequent and see your blog show up...

I'm the prototypical example of why you can't go off a GPA. Yes mine is exceedingly low, but the fact I scored so high on the PCAT should be an indication that I know my stuff, I just screwed around too much when I was younger.

I have had to work full time since I was 18 to pay bills, it's as simple as that. I cringe when I see interns come through our stores who really have no idea what they're getting theirselves into. I'm at least fully aware of the path I am choosing.

I know I have an uphill battle and I know its my fault. That's why I've spent the last three years making up for it in every possible manner.

I was one of those students who had relatively good grades during my undergrad, but I had a relatively laid back part time job that was not related to pharmacy, and I lived with my parents.

To be honest, I would say that I was pretty lazy. There are tons of people here that are more qualified than I was when I applied, but the grades really do matter. That's just how things are, and that should be your priority.

Let's not use special cases to assume that everything is the same. We should only use special cases to make exceptions. Everything that schools look for are ALL IMPORTANT; don't tune the guitar too much for the strings will break, and don't lose the string too much for it will not vibrate well - tune it just enough and it will sound beautifully.

You guys are delusional. Nobody got accepted with a 2.6 GPA into Pharmacy school lmao the OP is trolling you guys. Unless it's URM of course.

hey guys,
I know several friends and family got accepted to pharmacy schools with GPA 2.5
Although, GPA does reflect what type of student you are but everybody is different. I know a person who had a 3.8 gpa and failed out of pharmacy school while my cousin with a 2.9 just graduated. With so many candidates in every school luck also plays a role. There are too many qualified students and limited seats and Yes is not all GPA ADCOM looks at . Your experience your pcat etc. I read in this post someone with a 2.8 and nothing less than a B+ in last two years. That's great improvement and ADCOM loves to see improvement. There is no point of arguing if a 2.7 will be accepted or not because there is no body in this website would know. Just keep working hard and try to be the best candidate someone somewhere will take you. wish you guys all the luck!

🙂

Wow, I hope a racist like you doesn't get into pharmacy school.

Haha. That's not racism, sweetie. Racism would be saying (for example), "All URMs get a 2.6 or lower because they're stupid." Saying that affirmative action allows universities to lower standards for URMS and not whites is fact, and it's the reason why many states have outlawed affirmative action.

+1

UCSF and UNC sometimes allows people with a 2.8 GPA to gain admissions...thats call affirmative action. If they were not URM they would not have a seat. That sounds mean but thats a FACT.
