Hello,

This is my first post,

I'm from Egypt and I currently have a GPA 2.0

I finished the academic work, and now I'm practicing in one of the ministry of health county hospitals, doing regular all-round work, like filling, extractions, endodontics, and scaling and polishing..

I want to know if there are ANY educational institutions in the United States, or Canada, public or private, that would enroll me for a GPA of 2.0 and a 2 year practice experience for general dentistry, for me to obtain a Master of Science, in orthodontics..

Money is not an issue, but the simple fact that I want to achieve a MSc degree in orthodontics, is what troubles me.

I think I saw some institution on the net, which for a sum of approximately $15,000, excluding accomodation, books, and materials, offered that degree, also for a GPA of 2.0 also acceptable, God if I could just remember the name...:scared::scared::scared::scared:

Thanks in advance..

you should try to apply for the dental schools in Poland. They are taught in english as well, and frankly a lot easier to get in. A 2.0 gpa is not really acceptable for the health field imo.

You can still keep trying to apply, but I really doubt your chances will do you any good considering the strong applicant pool in US.

I think it will be extremely hard, especially because ortho is one of the most competitive programs..
How is your class ranking? My GPA is 2.88, however I am top 25% which simply shows my school was a little more strict in terms of grading.
So maybe your class ranking could be your hope.
A lot of schools require not only GPA but also class ranking.
I heard that for ortho they usually require a 20% class ranking :scared:
If that is also your case you could get a recommendation letter from your dean explaining your case and saying you were a top student despite your bad gpa.

I am very sorry, but I think your chances are not good unless you have a very good resume to compensate: research, publications, super good NDBE and TOEFL, GRE, experience.....

But hey.. it doesn't hurt to try. Give your best on the other exams!!! They look at the whole package not only your GPA

dont let your GPA from achieving what you want, see if you can pick a school and go there and start volunteering there or working as a research assistant or some thing the main idea is for you to get your foot in the door and eventually prove to the faculty that your GPA doesnt speak about your abilities but you are capable of being a good orthodontist, be persisitent about your goals , you will one day achieve it, it might not be easy or it might not happen in a year but it will work out, GO FOR IT !!!!
