Hello All,

I am brand new to this whole student doctor network. I wanted to be an interventional cardiologist the last three years, until my child and adolescent psych rotation. It chose me! But I'm in the middle of my 3rd year, and have no mentor (being that my mentor of three years was a card). All the psych faculty are wining and dining wanting me to stay in my current place....I never considered leaving the South, but am curious what are competitive scores for top programs in Psych. I'm also more interested in Psychoanalysis versus pharm.... but by no means am I against pharm intervention. I feel like I'm so behind the game!! Help!

1. Welcome to SDN. To get the best answers I would advise searching through the forum for past threads more related to your questions.

2. Check out the NRMP reports for average scores and match rates etc.

3. Don't worry, you aren't behind. Many people come to psych later on in the game. Sounds like you already have some psychiatrists on your side for LOR writing and general mentoring.

Check out AACAP. They have a special section for medical students interested in Child Psych, including a cool feature where you can apply to be linked with a mentor, which might be helpful for someone in your situation.
