Does anyone have any information (preferably statistics, but opinions are fine) on whether students perform better/worse on average when taking boards after D1 compared to D2? A number of students in my class hope to take NBDE 1 this summer (when we have an 8 week break and most of the basic sciences are fresh) instead of December of next year, BUT our Oral Micro class isn't until next fall. Are we naive in thinking we can teach ourselves the necessary Oral Micro and hit the dental decks hard to prepare?

I'm not sure how this works exactly, but the way it worked for our class is that the the school had to approve our eligibility to take the test. This means we had to pass all the basic sciences, micro, and the first part of our gen path class for us to be able to book a date at Prometric. You should check with your school.
