Hi Guys,
Why don't we start NBDE-2 score thread and the experience associated with the exam. Please feel free to jolt down your total part-2 preperation schedule and books used for the success , and share with everybody.
Thanks.👍

Hi Very cool

This is in regards to your pm msg in which you stated that you are worried and depressed about part 2 . Dont worry u have your WREB coming up, concentrate on that and do well.

There is nothing brilliant about working HARD. 👍

For the rest of the pms: I thought I will write here on forum to benefit others also.

U first of all have to make a study plan that this is what you will complete by each week and stick to it! Yes I use to have backlogs but, try and clear that over weekends. Study for atleast 8-10 hours per day and slowly increase your hours, & pace. For the last week of the test, dont sweat it out too much take it easy and lessen your study hours.
Keep notes of all the things that is imp and that you constantly forget. Keep revising those topics.
Exercise and eat well. The day before the test dont study just relax, give your brain some rest since it has to perform a lot the next 2 days!!
Read up all the info u can get your hands on for me it was my class notes from school / decks/ mosby / tufts / asda papers / kaplan q bank/ and most of all HARD WORK and prayers!!!

Hope this helps:luck:

Thank you so much star jasmine...
yes,you right... nothing is more important than the hard work..
To score 90 , we need exactly what you wrote in the above message.

Part I: 94
Part II: Comp Score 87
Day 1: 399/500
Cases: 69/100

Looked at a few old tests from the early 80's. Went through the Decks once on the Saturday and Sunday before I took the test on Monday April 26th. I felt the test was far easier than Part I. I scored above or at the national average in all areas with Oral Path being my best and the Case-based my worst sections

hi everyone...
i am new to this site and i am preparing for part 2.
i just finished part 1 and i got 83 which i feel is not bad cauze the test was quite hard and i tried my best.

i am planning to take part 2 in july which means i have 2 mnths to go...so to start with is that enough time??

i also want to know what r the best studying materials especially that i dont like to confuse myself with many resources..i would rather concentrate on 1 or 2...so are mosby, decks and past exams enoough??

AND THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION I WANT TO KNOW WHAT ARE ALL THE RELEASED EXAMS AVAILABLE??
WHAT DOES EACH EXAM PACK CONTAIN?/I MEAN THE J,K,L,M??
WAS
THERE ANYTHING THAT WAS RELEASED AFTER M??WAS THERE ANYTHING RELEASED IN 2009??
thanks for your help everyone....i think this is a very useful site

if you go to ASDA.net i think - go to their online store you can see what all those test contain. i wouldn't buy from there cause ther'e too expensive, but at least you can see what each contain. all of those are a must for the test. the latest one is 2M and was released in aug. of 09. i believe the besst one is 2k though. good luck!!

thanks alot odontologia,

i have one more question are the kaplan qbank and tufts a must for this exam??
i need to get a good score for the international dentist programs and on the other hand i dont want to confuse myself with a lot of study material...

thanks again

i am soo confused, the past exams on the asda site are only from 91 i guess but i have a cd i got from a student that has exams from 77,are these good to go through or are they very old and we should only stick to the ones on the asda site??

plz does anyone know what are ALL the released exams that are actually available to obtain??and are the very old ones good to go through??

That is awesome! 👍 Congrats!!! How long did you study for?

419/500
79/100 case based
88 Comp

(Part 1: 91)

Scored higher than the national mean on all sections although only by about 2-3 points on Oral Surgery and Ortho/Pedo. Only missed one Pharm question (!).

Day 1-401
Cases 66
Composite 88!!!
-got above the mean in everything except cases

I am ecstatic. GOD is sooo good. Thank you to everyone who helped me. God is sooo Good. I want to especially thank Laura Maxwell and Confused Kid.

MY PLAN:
I studied for 4months for 6days/wk with about 8-11hrs/day:scared:
Tufts-great
MOSBY-read about 5x
Decks- Used as a supplement
Kaplan qbank- good to identify your weakness but sometimes wrong info...so beware
I did all old exams from 1990 forward and made sure to know why i got each one wrong. Also every answer choice..you should know why it is there. So if a term looks unfamiliar as an answer choice..that isnt the answer..its fair game.

Another advice i will give to any exam takers...is to make sure you are calm on the exam days. DO NOT RUN TO SDN after day 1 talking about what you could have done better....DO NOT review ANYTHING after you leave that exam. Pessimism will only mess with your head...and you will get worked up and that will affect your performance. IF you put in the hard work..you will surely do well. There is no shortcut to this exam.

Glad its over...but wierdly..it was worth the wait.🙂

GOOD LUCK!!

I passed the exam with 88, so happy. Really thankful to God.

For test takers, just want to say relax and trust on God.
I have studied - decks, mosby [ really gud buk], all ASDA papers even old papers and kaplan q bank and SDN was really helpful.

Thank u all guys

DO NOT review ANYTHING after you leave that exam.

I actually did a little light studying after day 1. I went over some of the case-based sections from the old exams and that really came in handy as some of the questions I got paralleled the ones I went over (not that many, but enough to get me a few more points on Day 2.

(Then I went out to dinner with some buddies)

What i meant by dont review anything was: Dont go and look up questions that u think u got wrong...that will only break ur spirit. But yes...I as well did a few cased based problems the morning of to get in the mode. sorry for the confusion..good luck.

I took my exam on 6 and and got the score today i passed, all the hard work paid offfffff
376 compr

Hi everyone...

I am new on this site.I am a FTd and still have not started with school here in USA. I am in the application phase. I want to start with my part2 preparation. I would be really grateful to you if you could advise me on how to start and what books to use?

And also is it better to give the exam after you have started with dental school in USA?

Hi sunshine5,

I need some advice for Part II. What is the Tufts book that everyone is talking about? Also, did you find Mosby to be the most helpful as you studied? It sounds like you're a very positive person and I'm in need of that spirit! Which material is the best to start studying with?

Thanks! 🙂

Hi everyone,

I recently retook Part II in May 17th, 18th. I was quite surprised to receive my score in the mail yesterday. I have been following this thread while studying and wanted to share with everyone my experience.

The first time I took it I didnt finish studying, I only looked at about half of the decks and some first aid. I wasnt prepared. I got a 73. This time around I did decks once, almost all of Mosbys and some of the more recent exams. Going into the exam I wish I studied a little more, I felt uneasy about it coming out. But thankfully all that matters is that I passed.

If I had to suggest something to do for prep I would say Do decks and Mosbys. I think in the end I liked Mosbys more than decks but the decks has key cards that definately show up on the exam. I would also emphasize old exams from 1993 and newer, I def got some repeats. Not a significant amount but seeing them always makes you feel better in the exam. I would do the perio section and endo section in Mosbys for sure.

Day 2 was a lot tricker than I expected. I thought it was easier the first time I took the exam, I ended up doing worse on this than the first time. I wouldnt be scared about it, but make sure you know all of your stereotypical cases of medical hx that will walk into an office. The stuff you learn about, Diabetes, Pedo trauma, pregnancy, smoking/lung problems.

Please dont PM me, I probably wont see it, but I will try to help people as much as possible, I just dont check SD that often (but I will try!)

My overall score: 79

#items/correct/Nat Mean
op 63 45 44.3
pharm 38 28 27.4
pros 57 46 42.8
OS 55 38 37.4
oth/ped 69 49 53.8
endo 40 33 28.7
perio 62 48 43.2
path 60 42 39.4
pt man 56 40 43.1
case 100 60 69.8

Hope this helps. Good luck everyone.

I took my test on 6/2 and 6/3. I hope to receive my score by 6/17 to 6/20 (based on the previous post timeline).

Day 1 was ok, a lot of everything, and a lot of random q's about bur angles, statistics, insurance, behavioral, legal, mental health, demographics, practice management, etc... this was less of a dental exam than I originially thought.

Day 2 was again more or less the same, about 12 cases. Some serious ceph analysis, doses of over the counter meds and whether they come in tablets only or not, lab technicians, FDA and DEA regulations, how to see addicts, abused and anger management cases, how to break up fights between your staff in your office. Oh well, this was a Jurisprudence exam.

I don't mean to scare anyone, but the decks, mosby, nor anything else I studied covered those topics well.

Good luck!

TUFTS review books is simply a Gift from God...ok not really...but it definitely has been a true blessing. Its a review book compiled by the faculty at TUFT university on material to help their students pass the exam. Everyone knows it for the pharmacology section..but I feel that the book as a whole (which covers all other sections) is a good book to have.

Yes..Mosby was by far the most helpful. Some sections are really boring...but if you can read that book 4-8x WELL (depending on how well you retain info)...you will be fine. The thing about Mosby is that it is very compact..so its easy to miss things that are important...so thats why i reccomend reading it many...many times. I wish you the best on your exam..GOOD LUCK.🙂

I've been saying the exact same thing!!! I totally agree w/your assessment sunshine, both of those resources are awesome!!!

Hi everybody,

I got a 74 the first time and just got my new scores back about a week ago, which was an overall 86.
What I did differently was study my butt off. That's all I did for 2 months and I used Mosby's, went through decks 2ish times, Tuft's review (loved it), and reviewed my First Aid book from the 1st time. I also did each released test I could get my hands on question by question.

I'm so happy to be done, now I can have my life back! Good luck everybody

Wow pine!! You kicked bu&&!!!! Awesome and congrats, your score is absoutely AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah, now it's time to relax and enjoy the fruits of your labor!! Great job Dr. Pine88 😀

OMG I PASSED!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

I got a 71 the first time. Took the test on 5/20 and 5/21 and just got the scores back today. 75 and passed! I am SOOOOOO happy. All I wanted was a passing score. I walked out of that second test thinking I failed it again as the cases were insanely hard. I heard the scores were back as I was making a two hour drive back from an interview. I was literally shaking in my car the whole 2 hours but I got the envelope and saw the pink/orange color--the color of success!

The biggest thing I did differently this time around was Kaplan Qbank and the Tufts book. The Tufts book is amazing! I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off of my shoulders. Now I just need to pick a job and move!!!! 🙂 🙂

Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sooooo happy for you!!!!! Aren't you glad you didn't call your employer to rescind your acceptance????? Congrats, 75 is a PASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! By the skin of your nails, but who the heck cares!!!!!!!!! Great news, I was wondering about you and so glad to hear the great news, now time to start enjoying and forgetting this stupid nightmare!

Yep, thank you SO much odontologia for all of your help and support! I am so glad this nightmare is over and I seriously don't care what the score is not higher. A pass is a pass! I will probably be licensed by the end of July or August 1st and am trying to find a job. I have a few options, just not sure what I want to do.

Having options is much better than nothing... it took me a couple of months after i got my license to finally have a job!! loving it though!!!!!!!

Hey,
I was wondering if you found some place to discuss questions too?

Congrat!!!
Do you remember if there was any radiology questions in the exam, because Radiology is not one of the topics that ADA website mentioned as the materials necessay to study for NBDE 2???

Actually you post an EXCELLENT question!! After reading your post I started having some horrible flashbacks of the test and I remember that I had some pretty weird x-rays on my test that I'd NEVER seen before!!!! I totally took this section for granted being that they were not a big deal in my first 2 exams, but on my thid exam the x-rays were NOTHING basic, they were asking for some obscure weird "name this structure" that i still don't know... i couldn't even venture to try to remember being that i'd never seen them in ANY of my study materials. Hopefully you will not encounter my same problem.
I found mosbys and decks the best but there's a radiology website that i found extremely helpful and i'm pretty sure i posted it on one of the earlier threads months ago. I found that website to be the MOST helpful when it came to dental x-rays, maybe you can google and find a great site. Good luck!

could anyone tell me where i could find the tufts review material? plz help. moreover should i have to read only the pharmacology portion in the tufts or the entire material? how long will it take to study once. plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz help

Everyone, please remember that ads are not permitted outside of the classifieds section. This is a good thread, and I'd hate to have to close it because a few people can't abide by the rules, but I will if the infractions continue.

I got my result yesterday and i passed it with 80~! I made a 73 for my first attempt and I was really depressed. I read so many messages on this board saying that retake is much harder w/ lesser curve. I was really scared to hear them since i will be in really trouble if i don't do right at this time. I just want to give a hope of positive message to people who needs to retake part 2 it is not impossible. I retook the exam in june 8th and 9th and got a result in 21th. I studied dental decks, first aid, mosby, and kaplan. Like other people said, kaplan was a plus but not much help. I highly recommend Dental decks and mosby. Especially Mosby was awesome👍 First aid was good but it will not be enough for actual exam. I made my own notes that i don't know in detail or some memorization stuff (like an eruption time for teeth in pedo, max cart. of lido...etc...) I only had roughly 1 month to study and i believe i studied 8-10 hrs/ day after the graduation. I thought the exam was fair in first day and really tough in a second day. There was alot of pedo/ortho qs in a second day and i missed alot of them. I made above national ave in all section except pedo/ortho, case, and path/radio. Hope this helps who needs to retake the part 2. I know you can do it~!

Wow, this is a Miracle, l passed part 2 . Studied for two months, Scored 71 the last attempt. This time around studied the mosby's decks, first aid and kaplan q bank and the tufts review: the best material ever for part two. Please never give up on your dreams because of anything. Keep pushing forward. Pray and get enough rest a day before the exam. Special thanks to odontologia, confused kid and sunshine 5
