I have no interest in specializing and just wanted to pass. I noticed many threads on this forum are striving for high scores, and I was just aiming for that sweet 75. 😉 For those who are in my boat and just simply want to pass, here's what I did!
I studied for one week total, 10am - 8pm every day. I went through the dental decks and set aside ones that I was iffy on, or cards that summarized several concepts so that I could review them at a later time. I also skimmed through the First Aid book and got through as much as I could before my exam. I was able to get through all of dental anatomy and biochem/phys, and most of anatomy and microbiology in the book.
Here's what to expect... Honestly, there are going to be 100+ questions that are going to blow your mind. There were VERY detailed questions about diseases I knew quite a bit about, but didn't see the size 4 font sidebar in my First Aid book with "alternate causes" of the disease, so I didn't know the answer to the question. I had questions like "What causes X disease?" and I'd know that it was a Salmonella organism, but didn't know the SPECIFIC one (even the First Aid book didn't list it when I looked it up after the exam), and the choices were 5 Salmonella organisms. After I left the test, I was sure I had failed. I felt like I blindly guessed on 150 questions and was preparing myself to re-take it.
BUT! I got my results back, and I PASSED! 🙂 I ended up with an 84%. I am very happy with this score and super happy I don't have to re-take.
So, even if you're a slacker like me and only have a week to study, and during the test you feel like you're blindly guessing on 1/4 of the test, don't worry! There's still hope. Just go through the dental decks and as much of the First Aid book that you can.
Good luck everyone!

dont loose hope. try to understand the basics. Also when you do the questions try to figure out why the answer is right . set a target. Also if you can find a study partner it would be helpfulI need help
I dont know what to do now... last year I got prepared for part 1 for around 9 months, I did the Kaplan 6 months course, first studied from the kaplan book, kaplan qbanks, dental decks, over read the first aid, crack nbde, released exams.
Tough 9 months, basically just study. Gave it my all, I dont know what I didnt do, maybe I got too nervous in the test, after I finished my first half, changed a bunch of questions. I got my scores and got a 69, it was like the world had feel on me.
I took a couple of months away from the studies and now im trying to go and study again. My plan is to study the first aid, and the crack.
But this is been so hard to do, I cant concentrate, I keep on thinking what did I do wrong, I dont know were to star, this is like hell.
i need some help!!!
