hello everyone,

I am a dentist from India and taking the NBDE exam this december 29th. and as everyone knows the rules are changing from next year I have a few questions. when i apply for the dds programs next year will the score be valid for students who took the test before 2012? or should I reconsider taking it next year?

I am really confused and can't focus on studies.please can anyone show the pros and cons of the new testing method from next year?
thank you

The score will be reported to schools if you took the exam before Jan 1st, but it will not be considered in the process of selection of applicants because some of them will have score (those who took the exam before Jan 1st ) and others will have Pass/Fail ( those who took the exam after Jan 1st) So, they will not take it in account because the Pass/Fail applicants might have gotten 75 or 99, they don't know. For this reason the schools are looking for another competition criteria to select the applicant ( like NYU which added DAT for the next application cycle). But the low score, like 75-80, will give the admission staff a bad impression about the scientific level of the applicant, So I personally prefer to take it after Jan 1st to be more secure. Good luck.

According to the ADA website:
"The dental school profiles will be discontinued on January 1, 2012 when score reporting on the National Board examinations becomes Pass/Fail.
The Joint Commission is developing a model for providing feedback to dental schools for evaluation purposes."
So, the schools you apply to will have a way to see that a certain candidate did better than another, even if the system is pass/fail.
