You will select your licensure exam based on where you want to practice. However, certain schools only administer certain clinical boards. You will need to pass the NBDE Part I and II written exams regardless of where you want to practice. Almost every state will also require a clinical examination - these are generally administered by regional testing agencies such as NERB, WREB, etc. There are also a handful of states that have independent clinical boards. These rules are always changing and if you are just starting dental school, will probably change by the time you graduate. There is an organization called ADEX which is pushing for national licensure. I believe ADEX is currently accepted in 41 states and is administered by several of the regional testing agencies.
