hi..i didn't understand a question from test packet I-L, question 206... if someone could please explain....

The horizontal plane diagram shows each of the following components of mandibular movement except one..( diagram shown )

A) vertical componenet of movement from retruded contact postion to intercuspal position
B) horizontal component of movement from RCP to ICP
C) anterior component of movement from ICP to maximum protrusive position
D) lateral component of movement from RCP to ICP
E) mandibular movements occuring laterotrusively

the answer is given as A..

A horizontal plane is like if you chop someones head off with a knife (the path the knife would take is parallel to the ground). Therefore it is only able to show motion in that plane which has no vertical component. On CT scans this is called axial.

Because the mandibular teeth have a lingual inclination (curve of wilson), the buccal cusps are at the level of the lingual cusps or higher (usually higher in the premolar area because of this curve and because of the fact that the lingual cusps in general are smaller. The lingual cusp of #5 sits on the distal marginal ridge of #28. A mediotrusive movement for the left condyle (a right working) will cause the buccal cusps of the mandibular teeth to have to pass under the maxillary lingual cusp, therefore an interference is likely (interference = crash = broken cusp tip)

No, right working side movement is right laterotrusive which means that the left will be going mediotrusive. As the left mandibular teeth move medially(i.e. to the right) the mand buccal cusp can hit the max ling. Think about it... it will come.

anwser to this question should be distolingual, because on non-working side in case of lateral movement, mandible moves forward and medially. So the mandibular holding cusp moves up the distal slope of maxillary holding cusp, immediately mesial to it.

Go through Kaplan Review Book , page number 804.
Just remember the direction of mandible movement on both working and non-working sides and the intercuspal position of cusps in ideal occlusion. From these you can conclude. If still doubtful, we can discuss it.

Ya Boetlaar is right, it is distofacial because it is the holding cusp not distolingual. I am sorry, i mistyped distolingual.

if the mandibular buccal cusp can hit the maxillary lingual cusp in a mediotrusive movement, and according to the question.. since lingual cusp on tooth#5 is broken, shouldnt the movement causing trauma to the maxillary right premolar be a right mediotrusive?

1)i think you are confusing b/n follicular n parafollicular cells. Parafollicular cells are scattered among follicular cells n they secrete CALCITONIN.they are also called C-cells.
2)with age, pulp shows increase in fibrous n decrease in cellular content. secondary dentine deposition occurs wid age in response to all the minor irritations n trauma to the tooth to protect the pulp.
3) Dust cells is the other name of ALVEOLAR MACROPHAGES found on alveolar surface. They phagocytose the bacteria.
4) it think it shud be calcified cartilage but i m not sure..
5)CSF is reabsorbed via ARACHNOID GRANULATIONS which are most numerous in Sup. Sagittal Sinus..

I think exactly the same way I think it should be right mesiotrusive,not left one.I'm also confused because the answer choices give u both right mesiotrusive and left latrusive which is the same to me.If it moves mesially on the right so its moving lateraly on the left.isn't it right?don't u guys think the answer choises r problematic?!
