Why would you get "necrotizing enterocolitis" in neonatal RDS?

Members don't see this ad.
 
RDS --> hypoxemia --> necrosis of intestines

Basically, since they can't sufficiently oxygenate, they don't have enough oxygen to keep their intestines alive and functioning

Also, surfactant is used as a cushion during pregnancy. Lack of it in RDS can cause compression of everything (ie in Potter's syndrome), so that doesn't help the situation.
