This semester I am taking Physics 2 and Microbiology (I have my BS, just finishing up pre-reqs, Microbio is a retake). Today is the last day I can drop a class without a W. I am very worried about Microbiology. The teacher is a grad student and this is the first class he ever taught, I do not like his teaching at all. Also, I registered with a way better professor and some how got stuck with him. So what should I do? drop it and take another time (summer or after applying) or try to just get through it. However, I definitely don't want a W or bad grade, that will look even worse.

If you can avoid a W drop the course! You won't learn anything from staying in it and it won't help your future either.

You have mentioned that it is a retake. This means that you definitely want to do well in your second time around. I think it's a no-brainer for you. I'd take it with a better professor for a higher grade.

Hey guys thanks a lot for the input, I made up my mind to drop it but I ran into a bit of an issue. For some reason the system would not let me drop it because they had my home school as a completely different school (I am a non-degree student in the CUNY system, many schools are included under CUNY). Now the deadline was the 17th, if I go in on the 18th and complain to them will they drop it for me? Thanks again

It's the 22nd now so hopefully everything's been resolved. Coincidentally, my brother had a similar issue in school last semester.

He dropped a math course during an appointment with his school adviser (long before the drop date). However, the drop didn't go through for some odd reason and he saw a big fat F on his grade report. He had to go through a lengthy appeal process and it was removed about a month later.

If it's their fault, they really should handle it. I didn't even understand the need for a month long appeal.
